    I can't disagree as I never visited the line in steam days. However< I'm sure that I've read somewhere that the locos appeared to be black after years of cleaning with oil and paraffin but can't find the source. Certainly 31 & 67 were black in their early days on the KWVR but I don't know where that was applied.
