With the planned visit of Railmotor 93 from Didcot to the Churnet Valley Railway this February, an additional event has been announced to showcase the development of self propelled units.

At this new event for 2014, visitors will be able to experience the difference between Railcar travel in the 1900s and the 1960s.

As a side attraction, it is hoped to have Leek Brook's former hospital platform re-opened during this event following it's recent renovation as part of the CVLLP.

This coming Sunday the 2nd of March is the last opportunity to travel behind the Steam Rail Motor No. R93 before it returns to Didcot Railway Centre.

The Steam Rail Motor will be running between Oakamoor Loop and Leekbrook Junction and therefore offering a 14 mile round trip.

93 proved to be very popular over the Steam Gala weekend and therefore we would recommend getting there early to guarantee you ticket! Tickets are being used on a first come first served basis from Cheddleton and Froghall only.

    Regards

    Chris Meadowcroft

Tomorrow's the final running day for R93. If anyone is around come and say hi, I'll be onboard R93 :)

Sadly Leek Brook platform has not been completed in time, but at least you'll get the chance to see the Oakamoor section which has seen a bit of clearance work in the last week.

    Timetable as above.

Went today despite the passenger unfriendly timetable.
Effectively had to wait around an hour a Froghall or Cheddleton to change trains unless got off the railmotor at Consall and wasted most of your supplement.
Why not stop at Cheddleton in both directions to enable shed to be visited or BP driven, likewise at Froghall on the way to Oakamoor? It's not as if there wasn't plenty of slack in the timetable with all the waiting time.Atleast then changing trains would have only meant around a 15 minute wait.

As we normally operate non-stop Northbound it was kept the same as per norm. Southbound was operated exactly the same with regards to Froghall.

This also made it easier to control for both the various Station Staff and the TTI on R93, as they knew 30 tickets could be sold at Chedd & 30 at Frog and everyone would get the same journey. Stopping in both directions had the potential for creating confusion, as some people may have tried to hold onto their seat at the dispense of a new passenger joining the service.

Sorry if you didn't feel it worked, but hopefully you were still able to enjoy your day. If a similar event is run maybe worth looking at having the DMU stop both North/South to alleviate the issue you have highlighted? Though you would still have the same 20(?) min stop but it be split up into say 2x 10 min stops instead.

Could understand the railmotor not stopping re ticketing-the dmu was the senseless one-should have stopped all stations in both directions. If at Froghall without a railmotor ticket you had over an hour wait for the dmu including the bonus of it sailing straight past to its way to Oakamoor-or the go somewhere else option.
