Great clip Steven, and turn the sound up straight away to hear the Buzzard at 12, 17 and 21 seconds in.

That explains why they (Compass Rails) goes up the S&C first and back down the Shap via PRESTON in both directions hoping steam would do the complete trip to / from Liverpool! It cant be done as "loco" needs to be turned when it arrives at Preston from Liverpool to go back to Farrington Junction upto the S&C unless it goes tender first or cut out the Preston stop. Now that is the real reason why steam does not depart from Liverpool!

This is why RTC on the 3 ex Liverpool CME's go up Shap first and then return via S&C.

I don't think that is correct. When I booked on this tour, (a few months ago, before the change) Preston was never a intended calling point. Wigan, I believe was the last pick up point. The route was towards Preston, then off at lostock junction to Blackburn, then onwards to the S&C.

He means Farington Junction and Lostock Hall - this change was forced on Compass at the last minute by NR after having the plan for months without adverse comment!

Yes it was just the reverse route taken by the RTC CME via Liverpool.

A bit of on board from yesterday the 8th, unfortunately I was not at the window when she slipped and nearly came to a stand, so only got some of the recovery.:mmph: Can't always be in the right place at the right time with camera running.

Agreed but my contact says otherwise... and anyway 44932 was on the Waverley, would have been unlikely to run to Crewe or Carnforth today. The train is fully booked so to drop a coach off to use a '5' would not go down well with Compass.
