A quick check of the ELR Gala thread would have given a clue.

I would like to see your L&YR Class 27 down south after travelling behind it, on the E&BA line in the summer. Is it to remain as LMS 12322 next year?

What about having an LMS 4F for the gala. Is 43924 at the KWVR still a runner.

As nice as a Jinty would be, we'll already have the Ivatt 2 back in traffic :) which kind of negates the need for a Jinty! :(

When's the Ivatt due out? I was at the railway at the end of november and it was still In the headshunt outside Ropley without the boiler. Presume a move into the works is imminent if due to be running in 10 months time? Cracking loco and one I would come back down for a charter with!

I wouldn't mind a (black) Jubilee or 45596 or the Flying Pig 43106. The 4f from the KWVR would be great. Another Black Five to have alongside 45379 would be very nice :)
Sorry, I am getting a bit carried away!

Perhaps if you ever actually attended an ELR gala you'd know that, for some reason, they hardly ever use all their operational engines in a gala so this wouldn't have 'given me a clue' at all. Why do people always have to employ smartalic one-upmanship on pages like this when pointing out an honest mistake.

Yes you are! But I think you're forgiven, given the fact that for a recent change there isn't an overdose of Brasso in sight, nor a n other Southern loco...... ;)

I enjoy the "I'd like to see, wouldn't that be nice" pontification, but at the end of the day, an LMS gala is long over due in the South, so depending whats available, and from where I'd be happy with anything................. though the rarer from the South the better, given that 46100 will soon be Southall based.......... so owt from the far flung Northern outposts would be good! :)

There is still a GWR connection with the Stanier loco's

Looking forward to the visit of 46100 as I have never seen the beast. Had a ML trip behind sister 46115 which was very impressive.
An 8f would be nice as 48151 only visited the loop at Alton when she came down for a CE trip some years ago.

Yes there is, but there's no profusion of bits needing excessive amounts of Brasso............ Oh, an you forget the Southern connection with the Scots........ ;)

But I was trying hard to focus on LMS.......... never mind!

Nonsense, get 41312 running full line and stick a Jinty on the shuttles. It's a proven scientific fact that more tank engines equals more fun.

I take it that everyone seems pretty sure the costs of staging "Mega-Galas" don't mean that the idea is on its way out?

Do Galas really need 4 or 5 guests to attract passengers? And, if they do, does that actually make them not financially viable?

No. Quality rather than quantity. Something usual, has rarely visited other railways eg. Fairburn Tank which visited Bluebell as well as GCR( where work was carried out on it), rather than something like the N2 1744 which has visted numerous railways.
A class of loco that has rarely visited railways in a certain area such as a Manor or a B1 visiting a railway in the South East ( Examples chosen based on posts made on this furm over the last year).

Absolutely true. Hence the fact I suggested a Jinty for the MHR. You`ll be able to catch 41312 anytime for 10 years hopefully once returned to traffic.

It does tickle me that this is the 36th post in this thread about the Autumn gala when we're still over a month away from the February gala! :) I guess it shows how eagerly Mid Hants galas are anticipated. (Must say, I thoroughly enjoyed last Autumn's event)

Surely 2016 should see a Somerset and Dorset event. The Alps look rather a lot like the Mendips and you've already got a WC, black 5, 9F, Ivatt 2 tank, and Schools (did a charter with a 2P once).
