Not "out of service" as such as never run in preservation and under restoration by its owner, not awaiting overhaul by the NYMR. 30830 and 30841 are also "not running" (lack of a boiler for one of them and a tender for either being slight issues) but again are in the care of their owners. Can't immediately think of anything else on site not in working order or at least dismantled for overhaul.

I am rather looking forward to the standard fleet returning to service. 76017 should be a nice little workhorse going by the experiences I have had with sister 76079. I can't remember 76017 in service on the MHR, I only remember her being towed around during the end of SR Steam event with Cond written on the tender. 75079 is eagerly awaited by many on the MHR and I reckon she might just fill the gap left by my beloved 73096. The Standard tanks are also high on my favourite loco class list and alongside the 9F and Class 5 rank as the best Riddles designed locos.
The MHR owned class 5 45379 has impressed since returning to steam. A superb performer with the soundtrack to match. I think she would have been as good as 73096 had she been let loose on the ML.

830 does have a tender, or at least it did: the underframe of a Schools tender which had survived in departmental service as a snowplough.

I do remember 76017 in everyday use, and she was always one of my favourites. She made a lovely noise, with relatively small wheels and modest power output - you could always hear her coming! That last gala appearence, in tow behind a Crompton Type 3, brought a lump to my throat. I grew up in West Moors, in a house that overlooked the railway, and I (just) remember seeing what I now think were probably 76xxx locos being dragged off to Ward's scrapyard in Ringwood for cutting up.

Lots to look forward to: 76017 and 34105 over "The Alps", 73096 and 34016 back in action before too long, a selection of Woolworths in Purbeck...

    75073

    80096

76017 was a regular on the Watercress Belle and was always a pleasure to be hauled by her. I look forward to her return and to taking some photos!

Looking at the photo on David Heys web site there seems to be a few more locos scrapped at Wards of Ringwood. Does anyone know where abouts the scrap was located.

    Cheers

I believe that apart from the 4 Standards listed, the other Locos arrived from Eastleigh already cut into large sections. Info elsewhere indicates that the Standards were dismantled in the goods yard.

Yes it will be nice to see 76017 back in steam. Here is a shot of her at Alresford when I last saw her in action.

A couple of shots from today of the waiting room on the up platform at Ropley - just to give an idea of the amount of work & attention to detail that is going into this little exercise.....forgive the "quality" but it was absolutely crashing down at the time! _DSR12409_DxO_2_01.JPG

    _DSR12411_DxO_2_01.JPG

And possibly my last ever shot of the Std 5 on MHR metals - is that progress?.... I don't know!

Was it worth the Rangers cleaning her the other week?..... probably not....
