That is quite an impressive lighting rig that Hampshire Unit has, isn't it. Saw it a few weeks ago when we were waiting for the RAT stock to arrive at Ropley for the evening's jaunt.

If anybody wants a final run behind Nellie - then this weekend is your last chance, and she will be working the Alton set during Xmas Leave.

Nice that LN has been given a brief extension to cover the weekend. Is that something the boiler insurer had to agree to or was Xmas eve just the last planned working say til recently?

I'm lead to believe that her ticket does actually expire at midnight on the 31st!

As to what happens to her after that is for the NRM to decide........ still at least folks will have the chance for a last spin behind her this weekend.

Didn't Bittern get a one day extension so that she could do the second day of the Bluebell GoS gala?

    Honest answer - I don't know!

    Though it would seem plausible.......

I think Bittern was only 8years since overhaul....

Nellie has had its ticket since late 2005.

Considering 850 has now been in traffic for the pass ten years the paint work has done every well. I would mind seeing 850 staying in its current livery but it would be great to see Nelson facing out of Alresford. From memory it hasn't facing this way at the MHR.

    Thanks Lee,

The sun was only really out for the first one - hence the tight angle to get rid of the box!

I agree the paintwork does look tidy for a loco with nearly 10 years in traffic.

I'm not really surprised as the undercoat and green top coat were an industrial paint applied by professionals from a local engineering company on behalf of ERPS. (The engineering company has now been swallowed by a pan-European corporation.) I suspect the paint is now banned as the solvent was xylene (as in Hammerite) but applied by spray gun.
Respirators were used by the guys doing the spraying and all volunteers had to keep away for 8 or 12 hours for the fumes to disperse.

    Cheers, Neil

Nowt wrong with that - does the job - & so its proved! ;) :) can be a bugger to apply though if the surface ain't 'clean' :Arghh:

Personally I'd like to see her come back in BR green & face London - whenever that maybe...............

The boiler ticket always expired at midnight on the 31st.....just hadn't been planned to use it, which in all honesty was a bit odd as it remains a far preferable loco to the flat-top heap.

The last two posters should wash their mouths out with soap and water talking about one of Mr Bulleid's dream machines in that tone. :)

The Mid Hants wouldn't be the Mid Hants without a Bulleid Pacific in service according to AF.

Visited today for Christmas Leave. Very busy today with a lot of people in WWII clothing. Travelled on the 13.00 departure from Alresford with the 9F. A late departure from Ropley led to a very spirited run up the bank. One of the best I have ever had over the MHR. The return run was also rather special too. A very enthusiastic crew were definitely in charge. Brilliant stuff.
