Im very surprised that the person who applied the crests did not have photographic evidence on hand to show them the historically correct position for the crests i assume they were done right last time, so a positioning note and tracing i would imagine would have been taken before the tanks were rubbed down?

In the great scheme of things does the position of the crests really matter lets just be grateful that the ivatt has been restored again for us to enjoy and not left in a siding to rot.

Completely agree. And the team has done a fantastic job.

At the risk of repeating a question, anyone know the latest on the Std 4 (76017)? Also the Class 27 diesel (apologies for tainting a Steam Traction thread)

I would imagine the 76017 will appear in the next few months to replace 34007 when it bows out!

According to MHR Facebook page, 41312 has been out and about today.....7 days to go to the gala, so fingers crossed no major snags found!

Latest Ropley Shed update on MHR site says that 76017's boiler was having a steam test last Wednesday (17th). Anyone know how it got on?
Also, 45379 has been dismantled for the frame crack to be repaired. Quite a nasty crack around the axlebox area on one of the driving wheel axles (pictures on the MHR site).

Walking past 75079 the other day in the shed, lots of shiney new bits being bolted on to the cab in the drivers area.... I wonder if 75079's boiler will take the spot that 76017 boiler occupied?

Plus I am pretty sure the new frames that have been delivered in the car park are for 75s new tender which was ordered a while back.

That's good to know, but I was hoping for an update from someone at the 'coalface' hint, hint @73129................ ;) or do we have to wait for an out of date update in MHN?.......

In other news the QMB is starting to loose its 'Arctic Convoy' livery! & work on the BY van C inches ever forwards :) the chippies are having 'fun & games' at the mo, but before you know it it'll be ready for traffic - oh to see that with the Bulleid's behind 41312 - As Pa Larkin was fond of saying - "Purfick"!! :)

Interesting previous repair in there, I'm not sure those copper inserts don't make it worse. Is that a preservation-era crack, or one from the end of her BR days that has started moving again?

Good to know that there are some more 75079 fans out there! I was really pleased when the MHR aquired her. I was only 9 years old when Southern steam came to an end, but with one set of grandparents living at Overton, I would reckon that it's highly likely that at some point when I was a nipper I would have seen 75079 when we went to Basingstoke by train. Ever since she arrived on the line, I have been very much looking forward to renewing my acquaintence with this link from childhood days.

Will dear old Wadebridge be given a final run out in March, or is that it? I shall miss her!

Last public running of 34007 is due to be the 5th of March as the Alton engine, however she is out on the 6th on a Mother's Day special.* Boiler ticket expires on the 7th :(

*as usual subject to availability/substitution due to failure

My Dad came running in this morning booming of news reported in the latest beano that the NRM have approved a 'fast track' overhaul of Lord Nelson at Ropley, and will begin after completion of 76017.

Any truth in that or is it tabloid talk?

They're talking about it. Still some details to be ironed out. Nothing is signed yet. Colin Chambers is quoted in SR as saying she has a slot "pencilled into the workshop schedule" in the near future.
