Once 45379 has had work completed on the tender rear axle boxes and the annual exam completed it should be back in action. 925 was in steam today for use at the weekend. The state of the frames is not something I am prepared to discuss on line and the guy you work with should not be discussing it with you either.

Then perhaps you should keep it to yourself. Coming on here and saying this and that and the other are wrong with MHR locos on the basis of chatting to your workmate tends to wind up the likes of me who actually go and fix them.

The question is not whether it is true or not, more a question if whether it is significant to the safe running of the locos - which you can probably reason from the fact they are still in traffic.

This thread is supposed to be about MHR major restorations, not crowing ones knowledge of possible faults in the loco stud on the basis of ad hoc discussions. Still it's NP, so why am I surprised.

You're probably right. The corollary is that without any replies at all from those who know the entire thread could end up comprised entirely of speculation.

    Ah, yes, it's NP :Resistanceisfutile:

The QMB now has sandboxes - they just need fitting.

Not long now until she looks proper! :)

It's "little and large" rostered for the Bank Holiday Weekend services: 41312 and 92212.
I might just change my plans for Monday as I haven't yet managed to get a ride behind 41312 since she has returned to traffic.
Does anyone know what load she will be taking? 4 or 5 I guess? Also will she be starting from Alton or Alresford?

At a guess 92212 will be the Alresford engine & 41312 Alton, guessing load 4.

Looking at Tony Woods steam tube site:http://steamtu.be/photo/bulleid-35005-fire-box-repairs-ropley-mhr-17-may-2016-2 There is a fair amount of firebox butchery going on with 35005's boiler, backhead, inner crown shoulders ect. Was the extent of replacement known when the overhaul started or are more nasties lurking the further they dig so to speak. I know that a new inner tubeplate was expected, but it seems that at least 40% of the inner firebox is looking likely for replacement.

It is alleged there is a lot more work on Campac than was estimated for, and I am also led to believe that a new tender tank is to be built.Forgive me for asking this but where is the money to come from if this true? I am not trying to cause a stir here but if someone in the know whether this is true or not, it would certainly put the rumours to rest. I was also wondering where this leaves the financing of the two Bullied carriages as they are also tied in with the funding project.

    Kind regards

    Chris.

I think the tender tank was always in the budget to be replaced, however seeing the amount of inner firebox platework that is being replaced. I am starting to wonder if an entirely new inner firebox might actually be the better option, similar to what the Bluebell are doing on 34059 and 34023.

Better start fundraising now - these projects always seem to over-run costwise and HLF don't mind you being late, but it is a cardinal sin to ask them for more money.

Had an excellent day today on the MHR. Travelled behind 41312 a couple of times. She was really on form on the 2.50 from Alton. Wonderful sound as she attacked the bank. It really made up for not gettting a run behind her at the Spring Gala. A couple of my shots below from my very enjoyable day in the "Alps":

Here is a bit of Mid Hants memorabilia. My Dad found this 1987 poster of the T9 tucked behind his wardrobe today:[IMG]
