I think you will find we are very busy ... Testing the new CanPac mugs and finally answering the very important question of what biscuit is the best dunker. ;-)

It's but a small step from conservation work to conversation work!

I didn't want to say, so thought I'd wait until you finally admitted it!

But that begs the question - who's the undisputed tea/coffee dunking champ & which is the best dunker............................. but we digress!

I presume that fs123 is taking it, as I would, that if 4464 is to be based at the Mid-Hants for 2015, then arrival will be late December (if under own power) or early January, which is some weeks before the February Gala. Hence, the current plan is that the 2 guests are (or "will be", if you prefer) scheduled there well before the Gala.

As long as WCRC don't move her as they will literally drag her! 34046 & 70013 both suffered tyre damage on positioning moves.

Actually, its 73129, not FS123.............. and his actual statement was -" Being that both visiting locos are already at Ropley................... or is my cold affecting my thought process?....... o_O

I'd expect her to move by herself before her ticket is up on what ever day next month - makes a lot more economic sense! ;):)

    Keep me out of this...

Moving under her own steam on the mainline on her last day would make sense to me, although would be a bit of a bugger if she was failed, perhaps maybe a few days before her ticket goes, just in case?

And I know all about conversation work, there's usually about 4 of us that arrive at the workshops around 8-8.30 in the morning, yet no matter what time you arrive, consuming a first cuppa means we never even look at our overalls before 9.00, and despite sometimes eventually leaving at 6pm we never do much work beyond 4.30pm allowing time for one or maybe 2 final cupps. Add to that a morning and afternoon tea break and lunch, that's a possible 6 cuppas in a day, some people have one on the go as well, but I'd only dip my paintbrush in it and try drinking the gunwash. :(

If that's your train of thought, I'd fully expect her to move on the 31st of this month, as she'll still be in steam from the previous day's run....... and you're doubting the workmanship of Ropley & the subsequent maintenance regime?....... :(

As for keeping you out of it, for once I was actually coming to your defence! and as for your cuppa drinkathon - do you actually get anything done, apart from chewing the fat, putting the world to rights, dunking bickies & munching sarnies?........ Its all very well dipping your brush in the paint, but actually applying it something might just be a good idea......... :p

I wasn't doubting workmanship of any works, just that if something goes ping on her final mainline day and it can't be repaired in time it might be a bit silly. I've no idea as to her schedule though, if the day after her last run is her last day then that's when it'll be!

And of course I get stuff done! In that time I can top coat the cream including window frames on one side of a coach, or do all the chocolate on one side, or I could probably do all of one colour of lining (I've never been left to it on my own but I'm sure I could). I don't think that's too bad, four painters can paint an entire coach in a day. We managed to varnish a whole one before lunch when we used to varnish, that took about six people IIRC, and 4 people managed to topcoat the moster van (about the length of a BG) before lunchtime, and than had less windows than a carriage too! So providing we had four painters in each day (which isn't uncommon) 2 undercoats, 2 topcoats, and lining takes two days would take five working days, start on a Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday so in theory we could entirely paint and line a coach in a couple of weeks, although in reality it usually takes about 3. So we do get some stuff done. :D As for the people who shunt/play trains in the yard I assume they must get a fair amount done just by the sheer number of times I've seen the shunter fired up!

    So there! :p

Really, when I turned up at your gala, and sought you out to say hello, I was told you'd buggered off down the pub for another pint......... sorry mess room for another brew.......

Any way, to get this thread somewhere back on track, are you coming or not?........

That was gala day, completely different - I was riding on he trains instead of painting them :D. And yes, it looks like I am, looking at what else is on offer SSS4 isn't particularly exciting and the GCR one will have OC, so nothing between them there, 7820 and 1501 which I see quite regularly the only thing unusual for me about an 8F is it's colour, which admittedly I do like. I think I've convinced Dad he'd like to go, although doubtless the night before he'll have second thoughts and I'll have to show him pictures of everything that's going to remind him.

Not on the Saturday you weren't...... and, getting back on topic, I'm glad you've convinced yer old man to chauffeur you to and from, you wont regret it, the noise coming from the front end as a loco goes up "the alps" is something else, never mind the sight of it!................. :):):)

Being pedantic on Saturday I spent some time doing coursework in the morning, some time in the workshop and some time on the trains. :p Anyway, yes, looking forward to it, a railway high up on my list to visit, with a good cast even on a normal day. Would be nice to put a face to a name for both Simon and you Dave (and Dave from locoyard - too many Daves!), if we could arrange to pass each other by at some point nearer the time that would be good. :)

Its taken you how long to realise I was pulling your leg?.........heaven knows how long it'll take you to figure the other meaning of "dipping your brush"......... heaven knows......

As for meeting........ there are at least six Dave's in the wagon group...... he, he........ and I'm usually to be found lineside at a a gala, along with others on here......... :) though if its persisting down, maybe not....
