For the september gala growing speculation is that Manston and Braunton may be coming, that'd be six bulleids at ropley.

    34007
    34016
    34046
    34070
    34105
    35005
Or though not all in steam if this does happen I'm sure with a rag or two in the smokeboxes we could have quite an opportunity for photos and especially with 6 bulleids in a line across the yard, pit and running lines.

Or though as I say mere speculation at present

I've heard this being speculation as well! Lets hope this does happen? Well I do anyway... \:D/ \:D/

34007, 34046 and 34070 in Steam will be good - Be good to incorporate some shunting manouveres in Ropley Yard with these running Bulleids shunting some others about. Make a good photo opportunity..

Believe if I,m wrong but there appears to be the following rule......

    a. Factually correct to the best of your knowledge (i.e. not 'hear say or rumour, generally written somewhere rather than what you've been told helps')

So please dont waste our time.....either they are or are not....

This is a polite request.......not meant to upset or annoy

73069 - you need to read this: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=6319

It's stickied as the top topic on this Galas & Events thread so that everyone should be able to see it, and Lewisb06 is correct when he points out this rule - so I don't think that it is his problem at all..... ](*,)

My problem is you make MHR look like a bunch of idiots at times, there are a couple of people who seem to excite themselves silly about slagging the midhants off and I just so want to defend my railway from these uninformed blinkered fools and just as I'm about to, in staggers a village idiot and you feel any arguement you could put forward you've no chance of winning because somebody is acting the cock again.

Sometimes when you've heard that rumour around the manor, station, lineside or even the crapper, just keep it to yourself, chinese whispers and all that can quickly distort things and put in jeopardy the very things you are gossiping about. But maybe you don't give a toss, well keep it up, you'll supply a small minority of those afore mentioned idiots with enough 'action' to excite their right or left hand and you can keep on moaning about how we get a hard time here.

Skooze, you have hit the nail on the head here, got it in one. Over the last three years or so I have tried to build up the Mid-Hants in my own small way as more than just a family Railway giving something for the enthusiast as well, basically trying to show the Railway in a more professianal light. Of course I have made mistakes along the way but I beleive there is something for everyone in preservation . For example I am not an engineer so I would be out of place at Ropley works and as a volunteer I do what I want to do , not what I have to do unless of course it involves H&S and the rules of the Railway.

Unfortunately along comes a few snotty nosed kids. Fair play to them they want to do it , they work hard and they are preservations future, and it would be wrong to tar all with the same brush. But a few ,(and I will name those who I think are the culprits),such as 34007, 73096 and small prarie opened their gobs and engage brains later. A few grumpy badly chosen words that have attitude,( proberbly due to hormone inbalance) set back all the hard work that you, myself and many others have put in over the years, and amazingly they cannot see that they are the problem, they just come back at you and ask, *whats YOUR problem?*.

Now that I have written this I just know that these little Toads will come back with a vengence and suspect the Mods will have to close this thread down as the one about the Standard 4 group nearly was, and it was going so well too, a nice sensible constructive conversation. So lets see boys if you can show sense, constructive dialogue, and a little bit of restaint please?.

    Best regards
    Chris Willis

Hi Chris it was great (ACE) to see a cct and a box van out on the spring gala this year. Please could you have a chat with Blackadder about having a small rake of box vans out or all of the cct's out in a rake. I've seen a few photos from the old days of rakes of vans but I've never seen a rake of vans in preservation.

    Thanks

I thought this was about the upcoming and past gala Chris?? You've aired you're views and I am taking no notice from now on of these snidey comments from you from now on... So you carry on putting people down. But from now on I am sticking to subject threads....

And I ask everyone else to please do the same thing....

September gala should be a good surprise??

    Cheers

    Andy

    Sorry, only just seen this.

It must be at least 12 years since I last drove Met 1, but I seem to recall that the steam brake was a bit all or nothing at that time. Certainly first thing in the morning before it has been fully warmed up by repeated use, it could be difficult. The driver obviously has a choice, partially release the brake to allow wheels to turn again, but risk over shooting the desired stopping point, or keep the wheels sliding in order to stop. Also running bunker first, braking transfers weight to the bogie, which already carries a lot of the weight, and thus reduces the adhesion weight available.

In a loco yard in the morning, greasy rails, condensation on track from cylinder drains etc. is one of the worst situation for slipping or sliding. In fact I was surprised not to see the Beattie sliding, as I definitely remember seeing her sliding into the Down yard at Quainton on more than one occasion back in the '70s.

Reading this months SR Mag today I see that 34046 and 34070 will both be at the MHR gala in September. It looks like a great weekend for the MHR and Swanage Railway with both railways exchanging locos with 60019 Bittern going to Swanage to cover for 34070. Anyone coming down South can do both railways over one weekend and make the most of the weekend. Should be win win for both railways.
