Luckily for the gala, 49395 faces north, so thats 2 locos as face north.

Spoke to Bob Deeth and he says that with regard to loco diagrams, they will not be done until all the locos have been checked tomorrow to see whether they are fit-to-run.

He said that headboards appearing would be Pines express, Royal Wessex, Cunarder, Atlantic Coast express.

All locos except 5224 and 49395 had warming fires in them this afternoon. 92212 was being tinkered with and 5224 was being seen to its brakes. 30075 was also having some work done.

Many thanks for the info. My Dad and I will be photting on Saturday and really looking forward to seeing the Super D in steam for the first time.

    Loco allocations will be published

MHR Website, Latest News page, says "Given the unfortunate news regarding Braunton, the Loco Dept are busy re-working the locomotive diagram for the gala. As soon as it is available, it will be posted onto this site." (my emphasis)

    Thanks Tim for listening.

As a "warm-up" for the Gala I spent the day down the MHR. A very enjoyable day with 34007 on the services alongside the DMU. Everything rostered was in steam by the afternoon and the yard at Ropley was just a cloud of thick smoke at one point. When I boarded the last round trip to Alton the Super D was moved out of the yard with 60019 ready for a test run. When I returned on the service to Alresford the Super D and the 9F were coupled smokebox to smokebox doubleheading a test train in the other platform. They certainly made a very spirited departure for Medstead with the Super D pushing the 9F out of the station and then the 9F barking away in unison up the bank. A great afternoon just absorbing the atmosphere of a busy loco shed with 6 locos raising steam. Thanks MHR. Looking forward to tommorrow and Saturday.

Anyone know what way the Yankee Tank faces?

Regarding the WTT (with loco allocations), one of my photter friends asked me if it'd be available advance.

I told him there was a better chance of seeing triple headed A1's on the Meon Valley Line! That said, I'd be delighted to be proved wrong.

Hi everyone I've have spoken to Chris(CCT Man) today about the following information that could make a visit to the MHR more interesting for some of you. Chris is unable to put this information on forum him self because he is having some trouble with is computer/Nat press password and has asked me to put it on for him.

    CCT MAN wrote: Dear all:

Some weeks ago the wagon group had the idea of doing escorted tours of the yard at Medstead where of course we have our wagon works to offer more than just a train ride at this event and others.

The wagon group yard visits are at,

    1, 11.40am

    2, 14.40pm

    3, 15.40pm.

Please wait at the white gates just outside the station where someone will meet you at these times and escort you there.

my apologies for the such short notice.

    Regards
    Chris.

Sorry to be thick but to me MHR is East-West. So to clarify 49395, 5224 smokebox facing Alton, others all facing Alresford is this correct? Thanks in anticipation.

Looks like I'm off to phot triple headed A1's on the Meon Valley line!

Well done Tim, good work. Just goes to show the railway have listened to peoples persistent moaning (something I've been guilty of). I think this will make a difference to potential visitors.

I think the pictures of the Super D arriving at Alresford show that she is facing Alton and London, i.e. "up", which I think of as east. That's the same as the GWR 52xx. Nellie, Wadebridge, Bittern and the 9F all face Alresford and Winchester, i.e. "down", which I think of as west. In actual fact, the line runs roughly WSW to ENE. Therefore, I presume that LN850 means that the Jugo-Yankee tank faces Alresford...

@ Matt - one of the more fanciful "diversifications" proposed for the MHR, many years ago, was a miniature railway to the same gauge as the RH&DR on the formation of the Meon Valley Railway. Had that come off, then one or more miniature A1s might have been seen on the Meon Valley on a gala weekend!

Yes well done guys for listening and making available a full working timetable. The gala looks really good this year and my Dad and I can't wait for hopefully a good days photting tomorrow. The Super D and 9F on the freight trains for us will be the main attractions.

    It was GREAT.
Nice to see the 9F and Super D on the freight train and to also see Wadebridge & 92212 both together on the Pines.

I know a few of the MHR crews are on here, if anyone is on the footplate of the 9F for the freight tomorrow can you PM me?

    Thanks.

I presume that the WTT on the MHR website is for all 3 days?

I hope it hasnt changed, because it seems a great timetable.

An excellent first day. Great conditions and loco + stock combinations. It was certainly different travelling in the "Pullmans" behind the Heavy freight Tank and then the Super D! Wadebridge and the 9F looked superb together with the Pines Express headboard on the 9F. Nice to see the trains well filled too. A great day was finished off by watching the locos return to Ropley as the sun was setting. Well done all those involved in this superb event. Top marks on the programme as well. We'll be back tommorrow for more!

I think you will find that the coaching stock is different tomorrow apart from the wagons which will stay the same has today. Sunday should be the same has Friday. For example Super D had the Pullman set on her first trip today but tomorrow she will have green stock behind her.
