Well Mr H is a renowned political donor and activist in the sphere of Brexit so it's not inconceivable he may have friends from those circles he may wish to share his celebrations with?

volunteers are the backbone of the railway far more important than a few stuffed shirts however much the railway is getting for this one off.if I was a volunteer and got told I wasn't wanted because of it I would not go back ever

Very extreme. Not even if the money could pay off a project or but cover for all the rolling stock?

I suspect most volunteers will be understanding.

Apologies for my lack of reply after starting! I was reminded of this Yesterday...

Thank you all! I have now started, and have thoroughly enjoyed my first four turns, though it'll be a couple of weeks before my next one.

I even got to go on a train Yesterday, so what more could one ask for? ;)

Sounds rather childish for a one off day to me. Assuming Mr Hosking is paying handsomely for the privilege of be delighted that the railway is getting a nice lump sum it wasn't expecting.

Looking forward to pages of endless speculation and mock outrage over the 'Mr Hoskins' issue. Popcorn anyone?

Oh dear, not a very good move, so who's going to open the gate at Alton, or man the box at Alresford, so the loco's can run round, I have a feeling your new GM may well come to regret this,

I suspect they may have thought of that...

I don't get what the controversy is here! I don't think he'll regret it at all, I find it hard to believe that any volunteer would quit forever after being told to stay away for one particular day, nothing personal, a very private event is happening, they're paying well. I'd be perfectly happy. The only mess room rumblings I would expect would be the nature of the event.

Did you remember to polish that final brass plaque and fix the bin after you broke it?!!

    Ah... erm... um...
    Well...
    I forgot the plaque...
And at the end of the day, before I got the last down train to Arlesford, the bin fell off the wall entirely...
I can't actually remember if that was my fault or not, or whether it simply just happened!!!
It probably was my fault - most things are!!!

Mr Brown & the other staff will not have - it'll be waiting for you on your next turn. :)

As for the bin - you were the one tasked with emptying it - they'll take the cost of repair out of your wages.

Ah, next turn's not for a fortnight!

I emptied it, and put it back on the wall! Maybe the shoddy putting-it-back-on-the-wall caused it to fall off entirely later...

I'm only a junior porter... and who mentioned wages?! ;)

Do we (i.e. people on Nat Pres) actually know that it involves a visit by Jeremy Hosking? Personally, I can't see him requiring this level of exclusivity.
