Does anyone have any news on the Mk2s stored at Dalton? Google street view is from 2009 and Maps, not a clue. I only ask as I'm tracing leads on some Mk2s my parents own, that got sold off without permission by Glos. Warks.
If anyone would prefer to email direct with any information that would be great, my email is stephen47701.lfh719v@yahoo.com

Post the dates "sold" and the coach numbers. There are enough people here who collect numbers.

I am sure there are a couple of dozen who could tell me exactly what is in our yard.

Looking at the first page of this thread would give you a good start!

Ben - 13438, 13442, 19454, 19464 at the 4 in question. I have no idea when they were sold from GWSR, but have it on good authority that they move to the site mentioned.
61624 - As this thread was started last September anything could have happened, that is why I'm enquiring. I have found that many people have fingers in a number of pies of information and it can sometimes be a case of not what you know, but rather who you know.

Well the list of coaches at Dalton that was given at the start of the thread would have provided a clue as to whether the coaches you were interested in were at Dalton at that time. Surely that is a starting point and your inquiry showed no evidence that you were in possession of that information. But sometimes it isn't about who you know, but how you go about asking.

    Try this website:

Preserved Railway Stocklist You can search by number. I checked with the first coach you list and it shows as "North Yorkshire", which it seems is Dalton.

    There is also:

Railway Heritage Register Carriage Survey Project

This doesn't have the facility to search by number but you can look up what is at Dalton, or by "Designed by BR" and coach type (list by year built to get number close to each other) and the VCT site is well regarded for being reasonably up to date.

Thanks Steven, that was the sort of links I was looking for to try and get somewhere. The records on Railway Heritage Register Carriage Survey Project suggest that at last update of 09/2011 13438 and 13442 were still around, and apparently owned by the Mark 2 Preservation Group, which sadly doesn't come back with any results through Google. I wonder if anyone here lives in close enough proximity to the site, and wouldn't mind going there on my behalf to see if there's anything left there? Or for that matter anyone know how I might contact Mark 2 Preservation Group, if they even exist? I am keen to try and draw some resolution to the fate of these remaining 2 coaches, as it would appear the other 4 are now confided to the scrapyard in the sky, so to speak.

Actually Steven you can search by number just put it in the box where it says number or name!

    That should work!

What I meant was that it doesn't have an option of listing results in numerical order! The accountants' mind finds this odd.

The gentleman behind the "Mark 2 Preservation Society" is Adrian Morgan. I don't have anything like a current address. The site is owned by John Smiths Coaches (road, not rail!), who might be able to pass a message:

    Dalton Airfield
    Dalton
    Thirsk
    North Yorkshire
    YO7 3HE

    Telephone: 01845 577 250
    Fax: 01845 577 752

Adrian is a retired (now, I believe) dentist, so some contact details may be available through the dental professional body.

These coaches were formally at Sinderby before moving to Dalton. They all left the GWSR a good 8 years ago. Have you only just realized they're missing?
As far as I know they are still all there. I have a map (I can't publish) that shows exactly where every individual coach is located.
    13438 - Grid Ref SE 42142 76429
    13442 - Grid Ref SE 42091 76431
Another option is to visit the site on a weekday, they're usually ok with enthusiasts turning up. You could ask someone on-site who to contact.

Thanks Steve. It was a case that Mum was told that all the coaches had been scrapped by GWSR, so she never followed it up. It wasn't until she saw this thread and that the 2 FKs she owned mentioned that she realised they hadn't been scrapped. She has got me to enquire on her behalf as she isn't too well anymore, and we recently lost my father. I'd like to conclude the FKs fate, by either getting them back and bringing them home, where I have track laid for them, or being able to buy them to offer them to a railway for preservation. Are you able to email me the map, with both coaches marked out. I think one is located alongside a brown roofed shed, but I'm unsure which one or where the other is. My email is stephen47701.lfh719v@yahoo.com

I really can't pass on the map layout. I was sent this last year in confidence with instructions to go no further.
    Go to this link...
    Where's the path ?
Enter the 10 figure Grid refs I've mentioned. Zoom right in on the aerial view. They will show a little green marker right on top of the coaches you're interested in.
    Cheers

    Hi Guys
These coaches are now going for scrap with several already at Booths, with the rest to follow at one per day. The landowner wants to extend the Industrial complex and non-payment of storage costs for the coaches has meant they've being sold for scrap. As far as I know the only one saved is 3152 (6411, 977547) for the Mid Norfolk Railway.
    Cheers
    Steve
