I wondered if 34081 may end up moving away from Wansford, with the engine being out of action a lot and the railway hiring in large mainline locos to run instead. There's three of those there at the moment(!), though 60007 is just being stabled in between rail tours.
Of 34081 the last update from the Wansford MPD facebook page on 21/11 said " New superheater elements have been fitted as well as new grate carriers and supports, the loco is currently winterised awaiting a steam test." The ELR announcement says they think they will have her running fairly soon after getting her to Bury.

I know unrebuilt Bulleids are a bit unusual in terms of design compared to 'ordinary' steam locos; I'm loathe to imply a lack of 'specialist' knowledge because I have no basis on which to make that claim but has that contributed to loco being out of action at all?

Don't believe so - my understanding is that most of the issues have involved elements common to the rebuilt/unrebuilt locos, and the BBLS know their loco.

Unless I’ve missed something, I’ve seen nothing on NVR staff and volunteer communications by way of an update.

Perhaps the appeal is being handled on a contracted out arrangement by the West Somerset's public relations department....

Let the insanity commence... :-/ I remember the last time it was at the NVR (I think that was an unscheduled visit, mind you) and I also remember the trespass issues it caused. Luckily, one local policeman also happened to be an enthusiast :) However, it will generate a lot of welcome footfall for the railway which is only to be praised.

However, I would hope that Messrs. Hobman and company also have an eye on it to recreate the Down Scotch Goods with it - what say you, @big.stu ??

Here's hoping whatever profits they get from this will push the NVR appeal into six figures, finally.

FLYING SCOTSMAN ON FRIEGHT - FIRST TIME SINCE 1994!

We are so lucky to have been given the opportunity to host a full line photographic day with A3 Class No 60103 'Flying Scotsman' on Friday 28th February 2025.

This is believed to be the first time the locomotive has hauled freight since a previous charter at the NVR in 1994, so this is not to be missed!

    The Package

You will arrive at the Nene Valley Railways Wansford Station on Friday 28th February 2025 and participate in a short safety briefing by one of our members of staff.

We would like you to get the most out of capturing Eastern Steam on freight and so London and North Eastern Railway A3 Class Locomotive No 60103 ‘Flying Scotsman’ will be running at the head of our demonstration Goods Train throughout this event.

This opportunity takes place between Yarwell and Peterborough Nene Valley Railway (PNVR) Stations with run pasts through Wansford Tunnel, Wansford Station, River Nene Bridge, Castor Straight, Longueville Junction, and PNVR. There will also be cameos at Wansford involving loading/unloading and the opportunity for shots on shed in Wansford Yard.

This charter begins at 9am with a briefing and then photography from 10am. Our cafe will also be open for you to purchase food and refreshments whilst you are with us should you wish to.

This experience concludes at approximately 4:30pm.

    The Cost

The whole package is priced at £200.00 per person.

    A Golden Opportunity

On the day of the Photographic Charter, we are giving two people the unique opportunity to ride on the footplate of No 60103 ‘Flying Scotsman’. Sit in the fireman’s seat and watch the action from the
perspective of the locomotive crew in either the morning or the afternoon of our event.

This opportunity is priced at an additional £200.00 per person and limited to one person in the morning and one person in the afternoon only.
