    I am very dubious whether there is anything new to be said about the authenticity or otherwise of this project, or about the pros and cons of using the boiler from Thornbury Castle. Personally I consider the use of the Castle boiler on 4709 to be somewhat better justified than the use of parts of an 8F firebox on the County, but we are all entitled to our opinions on these matters.

    Anyway let's be clear that 4709 will be a mostly-accurate reproduction of the Churchward class, with
    most of its components being the correct types, many of them made at Swindon. So it will be much more than a pastiche. Even some new-builds that seem to be universally admired are not absolutely identical to the originals.
