The main factors that determine who wants to build what are more rooted in sentiment than track performance... yes ?

Now that's what I call engineering R&D- absolutely essential for the future of main line steam-well put Pesmo.

That's the ethos behind the whole A1 project - to put together the best of modern and traditional practices to produce a locomotive suitable for today's railway, and the same will go for the P2, should the study results be positive.

Presumably some testing work will have to be done either on NR or at least the Great central with something that has a 2 wheel truck at the front...
The Great Marquess ? 48151 ? for the simulation to be fully 'fleshed out'... and wasnt some track performance measurement done with 70013 as a comparison for 60163 ? on the GCR ?

I would be surprised, but delighted, if that was the case; I thought the Delta Rail study hadn't come back yet with results...?

One would hope existing convenators will be notified soon if it is the case; I am sure I could find a few pounds a week for a new build P2...:)

Nothing on the A1 trust website. I too would hope the covenantors would be the first to know.

That probably won't get in the way of a HR exclusive though...

Just been on the A1 Trust website and can't find anything about the P2 Project anymore?

The update certainly doesn't say the P2 build has the go ahead, unlike the rumour below. It states that the dynamic model for Tornado is now complete and the next step will be to input the data for the P2 as originally built , check that for track performance and then tweak the design to try and achieve acceptable performance for today's railway. Then we can get excited.

Been waiting a little while to post this response in this thread...forgive me for the lateness of this reply, for it's taken a few years to get to this point.

May I now pontificate on engineering matters, please, sir?

    Best wishes,

Congratulations on your achievement. As someone wrote to me when I passed the 11 plus "Keep it up, Sir".

    Much obliged. Thank you.

I hope to add NVQ to the list by the end of next summer and after that I will potentially be starting another full engineering degree with Network Rail.

Back to the P2 - much further along. Looking forward to a visit to see where my moneys gone in the new year.

    Merry Christmas all.

Congratulations on your success to date. Perhaps a secondary role as an engineering historian following publication of your Thomson thesis might beckon ?
