What ever the reasons ,Its a difficult job to satisfy all factions .Good luck to who ever does it and on the purpose of this particular thread lets hope the Website is given back to a Volanteer run group who have more idea what the Enthusiast wants as well as Joe Public and the need for some promotions and publicity .Give the new bloke a page or two NOT the whole website !.David

One from today 850 still leaking well from the frost damaged air pump ,

Hi all I was at Ropley today with my camera and managed to take a few photos. Nice to see the Bar coach being repainted in to Maroon should stand out very well once it's put back in to a rake of coaches. It's also great to see 73096 now back on her wheels again can't be to long before the new cylinder returns back from the machining company.

    Right.

Tim Beere was NOT sacked, and he did NOT resign. He was on a temporary contract, and that has now come up for renewal.

That is correct Ralph. I believe the that as the law stands at the moment, when the contractors contract comes up for renewal, he or she has to re-apply for the position, and it has to be offered to a wider audience.

Perhaps someone else can enlarge on this please with an extract from a legal document?

    Regards
    Chris

That's what I thought as well Chris. A legal doc would be interesting to explain.

There is no legal requirement to go out to the wider market if the two parties decide otherwise

An interesting article from SDR online, the new South Devon Unofficial website showing how even a new start up website can develop exponentially.

They have had more hits in January than in the whole of 2009 put together. Plus their out reach has extended as far as Russia and Lithuania! This

can only be good for visitor numbers and maintaining interest during the "shut down season".

Also an acknowledgement that they read Nat Pres! Details below

    http://www.sdronline.org.uk/Latest-News.php

There is no reason that a rejuvenated MHR website cannot achieve this also and match the WSR website's 74,000 hits

    in January alone.

The problem was that the MHR website wasn't broke yet someone just had to steamroller in and fix it.

  14. I'd strongly advise using stats as a measure only against your own website. Comparisons with other websites would depend on the stats being gathered in identical fashion which is not usually the case.

Website hits - who cares? Bums on seats on trains is actually the only thing that matters.

You dont see a connection between the two? More publcity equals more bums on seats perhaps?

Publicity yes, but that takes many forms; the website is only a part of it. Personally I doubt if there is any correlation between website hits and actual ticket sales. If anything there's a danger that if you give people too much info and make news updates too regular, it's probably a disincentive to visit the railway. Why bother to turn up when you can see it all online?
