Thanks Chris for the update, it has brought me up to speed with whats going on at Ropley. Living as i do in the West Country, the website helps keep me informed about whats going on at the railway, between my infrequent visits.

One thing though, how is the stripping of 76017 for overhaul coming on?

Anyway thanks again and i hope to make the journey up to Hampshire for the freight running weekend in January (Weather and A303, permitting)

Well done for the pictures Chris and thanks for the updates. Looks like I will have to join you in the photography department and get some shots with what is happening with 76017.

    Thanks again.

The Loco updates I am leaving to those with far better knowledge than myself, So perhaps someone reading this might take the hint.

    Best regards

Well done Chris. just what the doctor ordered. Here is link to a video showing how the S shaped Copper pipes in your recent Loco Shed post were formed. You might need to register to view.

You are most welcome David, I hope my little contribution has shown just how easy it is and how little time is needed to get the old steam operated camera out and send it in for all to enjoy.

Seriously though if an idiot like me can use a digital camera anyone can.

Just a thought for you guys?

    Best regards
    Chris

From memory when I saw her last weekend the boiler cladding was being removed and the running plate has also been removed.
There has also been lots of other items removed Eg Cylinder cladding ,pipe work, bolier fittings and injectors .

Well Lee my boy, if you were there why did you not take some photographs and send them to the website instead of keeping it to yourself eh? You are a far better photographer than I am AND you are at Ropley more than I am so why did it not occur to you to act as roving reporter for the Railway, this Forum and preservation as a whole then you would not have cause to whinge about others slagging off the MHR website on this thread.

I think you have just scored a home goal young man.

    Think about it?

    Chris

Does anyone know how much work on the Boiler needs doing for 76017? As i can't remember if the firebox is in good condition or not? Not sure if this has been discussed about before? But I for one would love to see some pictures of what has been done so far.

From reading various sources, i believe its boiler requires relatively little work. Just routine work, except as mentioned before, new tender tank, smokebox and tyrs are needed.

Yes I had begun to suspect something like that. There is a phenomenon common amongst volunteers in any walk of life of doing an outstanding job but at the same time developing a growing sense of being under-appreciated, which leads to an insular attitude, a refusal to compromise and a very thin skinned attitude to any incursion onto "their" territory which eventually and inevitably leads to a conflict and a sense of grievance when asked to relinquish or even share part of what has become their own fiefdom. It doesn;t have to be websites - it can even be who gets to push the wheelbarrow. It's human nature.
I can't imagine Tony wanting to come back to merely participate in a project that he previously owned and he wouldn;t be human if he wasn't nursing bruised feelings and all the usual cocktail of being cast aside and so on.
But full marks to Colin Chambers if the above is true. Nobody said it was easy managing people - especially volunteers - and these are surely the toughest calls to make, but despite Tony's contribution, early teething troubles and Tony's feelings now I'd say Colin Chambers got it dead right.

Nice website! Is 73096's new cylinder made of cast iron or cast steel?

    Regards

You are most welcome Mr Stevens:

Others are getting updates on the Loco,s in a far better way than I can with my limited knowledge in engineering, so I try to capture on camera other items that others have missed.

I shall endevour to do this every 10 days to a fortniight if thats OK?

    Best regards
    Chris Willis
