Just out of interest Chris, when is the yard going to be remodelled to connect the new carriage shed (and the boiler shop beyond) to the rest of the railway? Presumably Jan/Feb if the weather will relent? How extensive will the track alterations have to be to acheive the connections?

    Thanks

Funny you should ask as I was asking Frank Twine the P/Way manager that very same thing last Saturday.

All I know is that the track nearest the running line will be basically the same and the one furthest away from the running line will be re-modelled, and yes it will be Jan/Feb time when the contracters have pulled out, all weather permitting of course.

Sorry that I have no more information than this.

    Best regards
    Chris

That reminds me I must go to Ropley this weekend and do an update for the website.

Noticed that the loco shed section has not been updated for almost a month.

Since the MHR have abandoned the enthusiast market, at least as far as informing them via the Loco Shed pages of of progress with overhauls, shoud not the Carriage and Wagon section take over the link on the Home page as at least these are being updated regularly.

Thats somewhat difficult David as for one thing my base is at Medstead ,and secondly although delighted to take some photographs I fall down on the technical side as I freely admit to not being an engineer. However I will take some "phots "this week and have a chat with the experts.

In my opinion the Mid-Hants have not abandoned the enthusiast market as the Freight Weekend for example will testify, but certainly they have gone in a different direction, some into unknown terriotory but most for the good .

    Regards
    Chris

After being a regular visitor to the Mid-Hants Railway, I have checked my records and realise that I have not travelled on the line for nearly a year. If I cannot find which locos are likely to be in service by checking the railway's own website, I go elsewhere. <BJ>

Which is understandable so I appeal to any volunteer with a digital camera and a command of English to do their bit and send in a report to the webmaster.

This is not rocket science by any means and keeps the rest of us informed.

    Any takers folks?

    Regards
    Chris

Appreciate your efforts Chris, in fact yours seems to be the only non marketing contribution to the website in the last 30 days.

Since Colin Chambers created this dire situation by confronting the last Webmaster and then giving the site to the Marketing Manager as a plaything,
( which he quickly tired of), perhaps it Mr Chambers who should be searching for a volunteer to resume servicing the website.

I see that the South Devon Railway have appointed a photograher in residence, who with an assistant is producing exceptional things on a new unoffcial website

    http://www.sdronline.org.uk/Latest-News.php

Perhaps you could use your good offices to suggest that this is the way to go! MHRonline anyone?

To be brutally honest that is what Tim Beere wants to do, he told me that himself.

Please bear in mind though that we have had the Christmas period and the appalling weather to contend with which Hampshire has had more than its fair share of the latter hence the lack of volunteers though the Contractors have completed work on the HLF funded C&W shed leaving the way open for the trackwork to be re-modelled and the shed itself to be fitted out.

I shall have a report with piccies by this weekend.

    Best regards
    Chris

Hi everyone I was down at Ropley last weekend but I didn’t take any photos on what is happening there. The only information I’ve got which could be of interest to everyone is that the front and middle driving wheels have been put back under 73096 and the rear wheels are still to be put under the loco some time this week or this coming weekend. The bar coach is having a repaint and will be the last coach to be painted in the workshop. The boiler shop & Wagon shop is still being finished off by the contractors and is also still waiting to have the track work reconnected to the rest of the yard. Bitten 60019 is now facing smoke box out of Alresford.

As promised I have done not one but two separate reports with pictures.

The first is a Loco shed report and the second one is about the new C&W shed, and very impressive it is looking too.

I have sent both reports to the Webmaster and his helpers so hopefully it will not be too long before it is on the website.

    Best regards
    Chris

Thanks to both of you for the updates on the website - good to see progress -- this is the only way I see any info due to distance, and as a member I like to keep updated

    cheers Richard

I have to say something about the Watercress Line Mouthpiece as it now is .
Chris I apreciate your efforts to defend and conribute towards this website as it is now run.
Its not the same as it was in its enthusiast biased days under Tony. All sections were linked and if something new was on it you could follow it through to the relevent section.
This isnt the case now you have to investigate each section in order to find out if there is anything has been updated(Not too often im sorry to say)
Lets just say it is now mediocre and leave it at that .
    Its doesnt inform
It doesnt even promote weekly updates
How the best have fallen oh dear.

    Your comments are noted David.

Might I suggest though that your comments are directed to Colin Chambers and Tim Beere as they are the only people who can put your suggestions into operation?

It would appear that nothing some of us try to do are good enough though I may have the wrong end of the stick here.

Comments please either here or as a private message.

    Regards
    Chris

Yes, I will add my thanks as well. Good to see the excellent progress at Ropley. The Black 5 is really coming along now. Look forward to seeing this Black beauty on the line. And it's good to see 73096 is going to get a repaint. The last paint job was looking a bit tatty before the cylinder went.

Just read the loco report, and forgive me if im jumping to conlcusions, but it does seems as thought Tim Beere knows absolutely nothing about steam locos.
The webteam has tabbed the picture of 73096 smokeboxdoor as its smokebox.

One other thing about boiler washouts, i thought they happened about 1 every few months, not 14. At bluebell i think they try to do it every monthish.
