Why does everybody think thousands are going to turn out for this ok its non stop but apart from that its no different to the run which Nunney Castle did last week on the Great Britain.

I disagree strongly. I am a linesider, and a regular steam-goer too. I enjoy both aspects. When I travel on a steam train, most of the people I meet on them are also enthusiasts who talk about going out to see such and such a loco recently. Whilst many linesiders do not travel, I would suggest that most people who do travel are also at least casual linesiders. So their market absolutely IS steam enthusiasts. They're not the VSOE for goodness sake.

To **** off steam enthusiasts the way they are doing with their attitude to this trip is stupid. I don't know if it's FGW, VT or NR who have mandated the secrecy, but from their attitude it seems to be VT. Silly. I am already booked on the Beltane with them in May, but if they are going to be like this about every trip it's probably the last one I will take with them.

Presumably they will also try and keep the date of the next Tyseley open day secret so that they are not bothered by lots of people turning out for that either.

Edit: the **** above was put in because I use the term "to p-i-s-s off steam enthusiasts...."

The same thing happened to me last year when I wanted to book a tour as I would of been visiting for a day I wanted to know about departure/return times so I could make sure I got the last train home and was'nt stranded, the reply was you get the timings with your tickets, I said in that case I'm not booking and put the phone down, I've never bothered with them since, I travel mostly with SD and RTC who are most helpful when you book and and ask about departure/return times.

Many thanks for posting. Don't suppose you have the times for Sunday's run with 5043 as I may be able to go out for that, unlike Saturday when I'll be working.

    Read this elsewhere,
"I've heard a rumour that FGW requested that the timings were not made widely available to attempt to minimise trespass."
Possibly it could be FGW & not VT. I would lay a bet it is something to do with the widely shown trespass with the Help for Heroes.

Not to hand, relying on a chum emailing them to me. Will ask and see if he can oblige.

Cheers. I've a contact at ATOC and he's fishing too but no luck yet other than a promise from a FGW chap of a time for a single location of my choice.

If that is the case who could blame them.

You ever thought it could be much ado about nothing ?, it's not unusual for UKSteam to not have timings until around the Thursday before a Saturday run, here we are on Wednesday and suprise suprise the timings are known, whats the problem ?.

Looking at the timings there's eight minutes from Wantage Road to Challow on the outbound, seven minutes on the return trip, for a distance of about three miles with lines available for looping slower traffic. Does this suggest the trains will be looped, trickling up the line to avoid actually having to stop?

The times actually seem better than I thought they might looking at the start/stop times. Looking through them I think it might be FL to Dolphin or Slough then SL to Reading. FL or SL Reading to Didcot (can do 75mph on either) then cetainly SL Wantage to Challow. I think it should then be clear to Bathampton, I suppose we might get checked in the Swindon area, middle road road to Rushey Platt maybe. Given 75 mph running from Challow, we should easily better the time at Bathampton Junc, so if we're running early will we get checked or given priority from something to/from Westbury.

Is the positioning run on Friday likely to have one of the Tyseley 47's on the back? I presume it will as the timings state it will reverse at West Ealing, unless someone can tell me otherwise.
