1866 isn't what I would describe as ready to run, but it has of course had a huge amount of restoration work undertaken on it. I'm sure it will be receiving work to complete it's restoration before being used in service.

The previous owner was doing it as a sort of BFO to run with the Thompson Buffet Lounge Car 1706. All the compartments are missing dating from days in departmental use. Originally saved for use as Blue Peter’s support coach back in the day.

Someone on the M&GN Joint Railway Society Facebook page linked a website that says it is in is in operating condition and by the eye it looks very complete. I am not an a expect on carriage restoration and if it needs work. What sort of things that are need to done for it be service able.

That is good news...although I guess it means it would now make sense for the JHCF to push the GER BTK to the back of the restoration queue, refurb the buffet next and then the other Gresleys, which would be a bit disappointing to me...but I'll live, looking forward to riding in her, I don't think I've ever knowingly ridden in a Thompson carriage

Externally it is 90% there I'd say. It needs quite a bit of interior work however before it can take it's place in the NNR fleet. It's role at the NNR will not necessarily be the role that Llangollen had for the vehicle.

Has there been any news about 'mainlining' the N2? It seems to have gone rather quiet, I presume the necessary equipment has yet to be fitted.

I think in the last edition of Joint Line it was mentioned it's hoped that the N2 will be available for use on the Cromer services later this year.

Oliver Cromwell has been announced as an Autumn Gala visitor.

Hope I can make it. 70013 was the first steam
engine I ever saw (footplate rides at Bressingham in the early ‘80s).

Would be great to see my favourite engine at my favourite railway.

Finally ..... a restoration justifiably proud of it's bog seats! :D

I trust there was a productive exchange of useful tips and ideas between folk beavering away in Norfolk and the IoW. :)

Just read 43106 should be visiting next year as part of the 60th anniversary of the closure of the M&GN.

The 50th anniversary gala doesn’t feel that long ago...

Never made it to Havenstreet sadly....it's an annual family gathering and sadly a trip to the steam railway isnt tolerated every year, although we normally manage every other year ;-) A shame as this time I was clambering to catch a glimpse of the "Channel 4" Oldbury!

Speaking as someone who has no knowledge of these things, why, after the recent period of fire risk, are the steam services topped and tailed with a diesel?

A requirement of the fire service along with fire watchers on Kelling Heath.
By topping and tailing the diesel can provide some help going up the gradients reducing the chance that the country side will be barbecued.

We've had some rain but not enough and it's gone straight back to being hot and dry.

We had a lineside fire Friday and a further one on saturday, so we are back to a full diesel service for the time being. Shame really, had a great day firing on 76084 for its members and shareholders day.
