In theory, Gold Timetable is all steam (some diesel usage Fridays and Saturdays, so Monday to Thursday). Green and Red both involve some diesel use, partly to make a more extensive service provision more affordable and in the case of first and last trains to minimise the amount of the year when crews are disposing of locos gone 8pm at night and also put back the first lighting up time in the morning.

However, as we are currently trying to cover 4 diagrams with 4 locos having been trying to cover 3 diagrams with 3 or 4 locos for the past month, washouts and any fault not able to be instantly corrected (and Grosmont MPD have just about reached Forumla 1 standards with spring changes, as I have previously commented!) have knocked availability of locos and there has been extra, much regretted diesel usage to ensure the timetable runs as published.

Drop diesel diagrams and you end up with 2 and 3 hour gaps between trains outside the peak, which are considered to be even less palatable to passengers than diesel usage (and it is realised that is far from ideal for most passengers).

The arrival of the S160 and imminent return of the 9F should enable a return to planned levels of steam usage. (And, naturally, 2 locos will come off washout/water change at the same time but when you have a daily service from late March, managing to have washouts fall when you want 4 months later is almost impossible!)

6046 making debut in traffic today according to NYMR website:

    http://www.nymr.co.uk/

    (Today's Services box on right)

I suspect this "Trans-Atlantic" visitor may end up being motive power for the Yorkshire Day Pullman!

Just out of curiosity, how is the S160 6046 settling down in traffic? Any crew feedback as yet?

A very positive posting has appeared on the NYMR forum from one driver who was anti S160's but is, at least, converted to the 6046 version of the type. Seems to be winning friends. I've yet to have the pleasure of sampling it.

92214 was outside when I went by Grosmont shed last night. Wow! Absolutely stunning - that is what I call ex-works condition.

Pity it wasn't in use so far this week though. I headed north hoping for the 9F and more 61264, but the latter promptly failed as I arrived!

It worked! Post something and the opposite happens!

92214 has just come off shed and 09:30 ex Grosmont should be 60007 + 92214 t+t.

    And the sun is shining.

Dont know if 9fs we're originally lined out, but on this showing they should have been ! they are after all very capable mixed traffic machines.

Evening star received a lined livery. 8Fs never received Crimson lake but by god does 48624 look good!
92214 looks great, a credit to the team that overhauled her and a credit to the owners.

Its all gone very quiet about 92214 for the last couple of weeks.
Is there still more work to be done on it?

I believe discussions are taking place regarding mileage allowance, hoping for a positive outcome. Loco is listed on NYMR web site as appearing at the Autumn Steam Gala.

Having just returned from a few days on NYMR that's what I heard. Its been suggested that that 92214 is wanting the enhanced hire fee that 60007 receives not the standard one.
With 4 steam required to operate the Gold timetable and only 6046 45428 61264 and 75029 in service the diesels are seeing quite a bit of use.

If any engine is getting the enhanced fee, surely it should be the B1, being able to work to Whitby and thus has the greater use to the railway? While the 9F is certainly useful and can haul the biggest trains im not sure it has the same draw to the public as 60007, even if does have power which in effect is surely the negotiating possistion here. My loco hauls the most - therefore you need it most to garuntee the heaviest trains are hauled. Will be interesting to see developments, but Im not sure if the full details will emerge, otherwise many other engines would want hire fees and to move to the NYMR.

The 9F does look good lined out and will look the part on coaching stock in such a livery. Odd it should have an 8F shedplate... when its a 9F. Would rather see it with 50G...

I understand that if the B1 works through to Whitby then an additional fee is paid to the owner. Thats why 75029 seems to do most of the Whitby turns.
6046 had a problem with the regulator valve gasket on Monday and was replaced by D5061 for the 1630 Grosmont-Pickering,and has not worked since.
60007 was advertised to be in service from Thursday but this has not happened.

You have neatly encapsulated why negotiations are not as easy as might be thought by outsiders. All the loco owners are wanting increased rates so the railway management have to tread very carefully before setting any precedents.

Whilst I believe the owners have aspirations to get the loco Network Rail approved, this would be for Battersby running; I do not think that they would not want it to run to Whitby due to the sharp curves on that section of line.

Hi all, booked on the NYMR dining service on the 23rd of November, just wondering if anyone could give us a heads up as to some nice- reasonably priced accommodation in the area that they have used in the past?

    Many thanks in advance!
