Re the 9F and Whitby. Evening Star has worked into there at least once in the past so curvature issues etc., will be known about if 92220 caused any problems. Understand from a reply on their Facebook page some time ago that 60007 doesn't work into Whitby due to issues with the curves.

I don't think there is a problem with running a 9F into Whitby as such (like the A4) its just that you wouldn't want to do it on a day to day basis.

Twice was enough for 60007, as I understand from a post on the NYMR unofficial web site the reverse curves under Larpool viaduct are the problem. Sadly we are unlikely ever to see 60007 in Whitby station again.

Trains should be running all the way between Grosmont & Pickering over the Christmas/New Year holiday period, though. Gives you PW guys a bit of a rest from your hard and intensive labours!

I see that the NYMR is advertising for a Head of Production. Advert in the York Press reads:

    Head of Production

Responsible for directing overhaul maintenance and provision of locomotive and rolling stock and leading safe and reliable service operations. The successful applicant will take charge of the day to day management and delivery of the NYMR train service and become a member of the board of NYMR Enterprises PLC. Extensive in-depth experience within the railway industry is essential, preferably gained either within mechanical engineering or train operations. Membership of an appropriate professional body - i.e. chartered engineer or member of the Institute of Railway Operations would be an advantage. You must also be capable of managing within tight financial constraints.

For more details or to make an application please contact: Claire McCann, NYMR, 12 Park Street, Pickering, YO18 7AJ 01751 473799 ext.221

Strangely, not advertised on its own websites!

The S160 has been bought by a very nice man and will be leaving the NYMR for an overhaul elsewhere. I think its ultimate destination is still undecided but it would be nice if it did battle with the Moors, once again.

For overhaul, I think it will be a private site.

I hear it's one out and one in then as 44806 has been purchased by a NYMR supporter who has donated it to the railway.

Glad to know that the S160 is off. Its one Ive never been able to grow to like. Just need to get rid of the S15 and Repton.... a guy can dream...

44806 will be a fine engine to add to the fleet, alongside Eric Tracy and Rileys engines when they arrive. There might be a tad bit of irrony seeing either of 45407 or 44871 alongside 44806 at Grosmont if the sale is true and Riley didnt get the machine himself.

Rather a narrow view. One of the great delights of the Moors is the wide range of motive power from different companies.

I'm a North Eastern enthusiast, but the S15 and the Schools have done sterling service for the NYMR and I look forward to seeing them back. They even look good on the front of the teak train (and SR engines used to haul teak stock on inter-regional trains so quite prototypical if they could be repainted SR green!) and the Schools is as close as we're likely to get to a D49 on the NYMR. Roll on the return of 34101 as well!

I don't think Ian Riley took a serious interest in 44806 in the end, so no ironies there, but I wonder if we'll see less of 45407 and 44871 on the NYMR in years to come as more of the railway-owned fleet come on line.

By way of contrast, I was vehemently against the S160 when it first came, now I'm sorry to see it go, and as an ex-Neville Hill engine it was at least an ex-North Eastern engine. Hopefully it'll be back to add variety, which after all is the spice of life!
