Let it be Mr. Rusty the Ruston, in that case :) I saw a video of a 165DS (the mechanical transmission one) being started and was greatly surprised to see the donkey engine - or 'pony motor' if you're a Colonial ;) - was one of those single-cylinder Wolseley engines with the "bird bath" on the top of the cylinder head!

Do you know where the 165 came from? It'd look very nice in Lincoln Green.

I don't, but I can probably find out. If Tim has anything to do with it, it will be a BR livery...

As a 'PWM' machine? Nooo...! Personally I'd like it to carry a bespoke "Nene Valley Railway" livery - green, of course :)

There's a plan, and it involves 50s/60s BR goods, and everything involved will need to fit that period/look...but then again, we don't own 304469

Just read the wagon group update: I'm looking forward to seeing the tank wagon restored and in its 'new' livery - I have a soft spot for tank wagons, as evidenced by my extensive collection of Hornby-Dublo ones! I've got a ticket for one of the talks at Peterborough Museum tonight (I missed last week's as I had Covid :() but I must book one for Tim's talk on 18/9.

Ticket now booked for Tim's talk :) Looking forward to that: in the meantime I need to buttonhole someone at the Museum about one of the captions on the photographs...

While Josh and I were away enjoying the delights of sunny Yorkshire (NYMR, fish and chips in Whitby, Shildon, NRM, NYMR Grosmont shed tour, Goathland, YAM, DVLR & YWR), the guys rescheduled due to the weather and cracked on with the tanker and van panelling...

We are also organising a wagon centric weekend, but this has had to be rearranged as yet another postponement of Tornado's visit has taken the weekend we originally intended to hold our event. I will do a separate post with all the details.

Ah, that damned locomotive strikes again! Good to see the work on the wagons: I was pleased to see a wagon that formed part of my inherited train set at the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway on Sunday - the "Insul-Fish" wagon :)

Nearly popped over there on the way back from hols - but decided that visiting railways on six of the seven days of our holiday was probably as much as my wife would tolerate...

From our illustrious leader - I'll probably post it in a few other places too, but if you know of wagon people who might be interested, please pass it on:

The NVR wagon group would like to invite members of other wagon groups to the NVR over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd November for a freight open weekend.

The plan is to run the freight rake with the Peak ‘Royal Tank Regiment’ for 3 trips each day.

Other groups are welcome to bring sales stalls and publicity…these can be in a secure location in a building on the platform at Wansford, though we can’t provide any tables I’m afraid.

In order to cover costs for the freight being out we plan to run the weekend as a driving course for paying customers, with us all having a ride in the brake vans.

We will also lay on a bit of food once I know numbers.

Please let me know if any of you guys are up for coming, if you want to bring a stall/sales stand, and numbers. Contact - nvrwagons@gmail.com

    Cheers

    Tim
