    Re: nymr services suspended

Terrible terrible news. My thoughts to his family, friends and collegues at NYMR.

Its a reminder to us all of the dangers of our hobby/work. Unfortunatly these sort of things can happen and we must ALL learn that working on railways, beit mainline or preserved, can be dangerous and that we must not treat it as a toy train set.

Awful news. This is almost the worst thing that can happen on any railway; deepest sympathy and condolences to all involved, family and friends.

    Official Statement on Grosmont incident

    [IMG]Published May 22, 2012

On Monday 21 May at approximately 12:30 a volunteer guard, Bob Lund, aged 65 from Beverley, became trapped between two carriages on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Paramedics also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Our deepest sympathy and thoughts go out to his family and friends.
Our current priorities are to offer support and counselling to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s volunteers and staff that were on duty at the time of the incident, together with investigating into this tragic event.
The accident took place during a shunting operation which is where we detach and attach carriages, a normal routine procedure. The railway will be conducting its own investigation alongside those of the British Transport Police, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch and the Office of Rail Regulation to establish what went wrong, and determine any action that might be needed to prevent a recurrence.
Train services were suspended on Monday 21st May; services have now resumed and are now running to the planned daily timetable.
We would ask for all of our members to refrain from speculation at this present moment until a full investigation can be carried out.

Thanks for posting that John, the statement is referenced on the unofficial NYMR forum but (perhaps understandably) you need to be a working member to see it.

RIP Mr Lund, and thoughts and prayers with his colleagues, family and friends.

There but for the grace of God..... as said above, a stark reminder that we're not just "playing trains".

    RIP Mr. Lund.

As someone said above, let#s not forget the rest of the train crew and station staff who were on the scene - it must have been extremely traumatic for them.

heart felt wishes go to his family .

He was i understand a very experienced guard, and to lose your life in such a way has to be a warning to everyone, our hobby is dangerious even when you know what you are doing what ever the cause , everyone who works at the "sharp" end need to be constantly aware, every life lost is one to many , I never met you Bob, but you were a good man RIP
