Be interesting to see how many people turn out for the REALLY BIG EVENT of the year at Olympia nex week. The Great British Beer Festival. Just to add to your observations about London Frank. According to some friends who have ventured into the deserted capital, all the taxi drivers were seen sitting around reading newspapers in their cabs. Things must be dire.

To be fair, I've never seen a taxi not complaining about his lot.
yet plenty of them on 6 figure salaries (or at least living the life of one) around London.

The Bayside Festival at Weymouth set up by a private company at the invitation of the local Council has collapsed after four days, taking with it its parent company Mainsail, with a decade of successful festival operations behind it. - The cause - "dire visitor numbers"

The first of many - I was told there were 28 diners on yesterday's Scarborough Flyer and at least one full coach totally empty. - Not a good sign, as Kevin has indicated.

Err - Camraman - See you at the Crusty Pie Stand!

I think it might be a bit unfair to suggest the Olympics is solely to blame for things like this, remember how tight money is in general still at the moment, coincidentally I just had a letter this morning that a tour I was booked on has had to be pulled due to low bookings, one that was going nowhere near London or Weymouth, so it appears people are being more selective about where to spend currently.

There can never be enough misery heaped upon the heads of London taxi drivers, especially the grizzling oafs that ply their trade from Heathrow.

No I do not currently volunteer
I used a taxi from Warrington station on Sunday, I had a large case with me but apart from the driver operating the boot release I was left to load the bag myself. Big grumble when I told him my destination which was only a couple of miles. Turned into the destination street where we met another taxi, he would his window down and said to the other driver, 'we get all the rubbish jobs'. Stopped and made no attempt to get my bag out for me. So I gave him the exact fare on the meter and when he grumbled even more, I just said "I you had not moaned like you did and helped me with the bag then you would have got a reasonable tip as it was a short journey, but you get nothing for being a miserable git" ....

Also love it, they think they are God's gift. Also round here they are of the opinion that road laws/rules/regulations don't apply to them. If I see one driving as he/she shouldn't, the licence number is noted & reported to the local council.
