AALO have posted the following on FB this morning:

“Following extensive preparation work by our US Project Co-ordinator, Bob Simms, enlisting the participation of the Engineering team and our Consultant Pilots, we have engaged with the FAA.
The FAA concluded that the English Electric Lightning Return to Flight team (being AALO) is dedicated to the project and that the aircraft is eligible for an experimental, exhibition airworthiness certification.
We now have the “amber” light to proceed with preparing the extensive documentation that will be required to be submitted with our application.

Financially capable individuals are invited to contact us now to discuss an 'open skies' involvement.”

OK, it's in the US, but we inch closer to another Lightning returning to flight...

Once they have succeeded, all we need now is to arrange a meet with the sole remaining airworthy SA example. "Unidentified contact at Flight Level Five Zero. Scramble, scramble, scramble." we can but dream. :)

Given the Frightnings legendary endurance, you had better make that quite a short dream :D

But not so low for what they'd be intercepting.

Two Lightnings dog fighting - that would be worth seeing and hearing. Was at RAF Binbrook during an air exercise and an "attacking" Phantom streaked over the airfield with a gaggle of Lightnings crawling all over him. That was impressive. Listening to the air to air radio was quite interesting too.
