That we have to be able to maintain and operate whatever section of the line is open and we would rather offer a quality service with clean well maintained trains than a longer poorly maintained line. I would also point out that a shorter line often results in a more frequent service. :)

It was for sale not many years ago... and they didn't buy it. In fact, from what I could see from afar, they didn't so much as try to buy it (but I may be wrong on that).
It would have been perfectly feasible/sensible to take out a loan, buy it and rent it out until needed (as the L&B have done through their associated companies), but they didn't.
So in the circumstances, should we be worrying about where they could extend to, if they appear unable to grasp opportunities when they arise?
And posts such as the one further up which essentially says 'we could go this way, or that way' seem to suggest a lack of a clear vision.
I wish them well, but they seem to have a monumental task ahead.

Feasible? Perhaps. Sensible? Probably not. I wasn't involved at the time but this is a very small organisation and I can understand why they would not have wanted to take on the liability of a loan to purchase a property like that when there were/are so many other short term demands on funding.
I would also point out (again) that my posts are just my opinions and not necessarily the same as CHR official opinions. I was simply responding to someone else's questions about the possible options.
I believe CHR do have a 'clear vision' but it's not my place to quote it (or offer opinions based on it).

As an organisation I can understand it, but they only needed to persuade one member with deep pockets that it presented a good business opportunity, and it seems surprising they didn't have anyone fitting that description.
On the plus side, as happens with private houses, it will end up on the market again at some point. But whether it hinders progress in the meantime is another matter.

Yes, you were very clear on that to be fair, sorry if my more general point implied otherwise.

Wasn't Llynclys station at one time owned by Ken Ryder, former owner of 7821? I believe he was involved in the Cambrian railway at that time. As for extending, I tend to agree with mdewell in that extending for the sake of it probably won't deliver significant benefits. The line ticks lots of boxes as it is and the station site at Oswestry is ripe for development. I assume a run round loop is next on the list? .

I believe a run round loop at Oswestry has been near the top of the list for some time. Anyone got a spare curved point?
(Having spent last Monday on Crossing/Signal Box Duty at Oswestry, I could now do shunt release moves blindfolded! (not that I would try that of course. . .))
