As I read it, they have actually received £2M cash/money to date with nearly another £million pledged.

One could argue that they have raised nearly £3M in four years and therefore only need to secure another £2M or so..

At the same rate of fundraising (3/4 £M per yr) there's just over two and a half years fundraising left to do.

All that additional cash has to come from those of us who have already contributed, and who may or may not be inclined to contribute further, and/or from individuals or organisations that have so far not been inclined to contribute at all. I'm sure the Trust will succeed in winkling the money out of existing and new contributors, but they have their work cut out to do it.

860 people are signed up to donate £10/month. That struck me as a low number. I feel there are many more out there who could be persuaded to sign up to that particular commitment.

That's still north of 100,000 a year. Not to be sniffed at.

A really impressive achievement of the P2 Steam! :)
I find it a bit odd that they not have set up any possibillity to donate money or sign up as members online. Maybe that could attract even more support..?

    Hi Knut,

I don't know how general it is, but on the page describing the motion repair there is a PayPal 'donate' button?

As a bit of change, I came across the following on "Steam index", from the Locomotive Magazine, 1935:

"Boy Scouts were asked to suggest names for the new 2-8-2 engines which the L.N.E.R. intend building for their Scottish lines. Over two thousand entries were received and although the railway company does not bind itself to use the names submitted, there is a probability some may be finally chosen for the new engines. The prize-winners are t0 be given a free trip to the Doncaster Works, as well as a guinea pocket money. They are as follows: H. R. Watson, who suggested the name Earl Marischal which has been chosen for engine No. 2002; J. N. Wheatley, Gordon of Fochabers ; J, M. Laing, Maid of Glamis; R. Edminson, Mons Meg ; and D. E. Townley, Thane of Fife."

A prize of one guinea, worth a little over £70 today, at first thought not a bad reward for the suggestion of a possible name, not ignoring the works visit here. But would the same age group be contented today with such a reward? I doubt it, folk are too conditioned to expect a chance of a reward of thousands, if not millions, for the loss of a few pounds which in themselves are seen to have little value.

I would think it would be similar to the pulley fitted to the axle of a b4/b5 bogie.

Not quite correct, it's a minimum of £10 a month some, including me pay more than that but we don't know how many.

You have overlooked the other means of funding, corporate begging otherwise known as sponsorship and the Trust seem to be particularly good at that.

A few Modern day Scots Terrors; Tennants Super, Jimmy Krankie, Rab. C. Nesbitt, Buckfast Bobby McBride, Nicola F******n Sturgeon...

I would have suggested Angus Og back then.
