I seem to reall a soon-to-be-made-redundant council gardener expressed his views in clearly similar fashion on a very prominent roudabout around ten years ago. T'was no political symbol however ....

I doubt our moderators would let the image stay up too long if anyone had a copy to hand!

Ignoring all the above  all I can say about the latest addition to the P2 website is OMG! Talk about embracing the latest technology! Here's the script, "Through the good offices of C3sixty we have had a virtual 3D tour of Darlington Locomotive Works created. This incredible guide to the Works is punctuated with information points where a ‘virtual’ David Elliott will pop up and talk you through the component or process being viewed at that point."

You can view the page here.

That is fantastic. Well done to whoever came up with that idea.

I found the virtual visit worth making just for the explanation of how a Cartazzi truck works (but there's more).

The Cartazzi truck is something I thought I understood, then realised I didn't ... but I'm getting there! The page is a fantastic addition to the P2 website. It's just a pity more lines and individual projects don't have the manpower or resouces (and sometimes the vision) to scale such dizzy heights.

A1SLT have set another new benchmark. As Mr.Punch might say: "That's the way to do it!"

Fantastic, that! Will have to have a good look at the site when I'm back from my holiday next weekend.

It looks as though it is only the conclusion of the valve gear design that remains to be finalised. This project moves along at a remarkable and encouraging pace. Quite outstanding.

They're certainly not letting the grass grow under their feet!

As someone who remembers the sad scrap lines of Barry Island, I'm still having to pinch myself occasionally. I mean ..... a P2?!! Who said the age of wonder was past?

Are the vertical surfaces that the horn guides follow slightly curved? I'm thinking that the wheelset should rotate about a vertical axis as it moves from side to side.

It might stand for a while and could just survive until the first run by 2007 which simply holds far too many advantages.

Not necessarily, as we are assuming the railway will be the same place in three years time. In the past three, we have seen 46233 restricted on routes it used to run on regularly in preservation, whilst many GWR locomotives can no longer run on the routes they were designed for. The P2 has always struck me as the right idea in terms of power, but if prevailing operating conditions conspire against it, then it won't have much more advantage over any other form of non-standard traction (ie. steam locomotives). No doubt it'll carve it's own niche, like 60163, though.

I would be interested to know what the "far too many advantages that Prince of Wales will hold" are - not necessarily contradicting you, just curious to understand your viewpoint. However, this is off topic for the Cornishman thread so if it needs to be moved somewhere else please go ahead

Let us see if it is moved and then we might throw a few numbers around.

More to the point, let's see when it moves and where it is allowed to move before getting overly excited about anything.
