This is going to get really confusing with the two groups - started reading this thinking why on earth are the A1 trust who haven't confirmed they are actually building yet agreeing to place frames at Didcot rather than their own works - oh its the Doncaster P2 group not the A1 P2 group.

I guess the bigger picture is whether the Doncaster group can sustain their project if the A1 group are building arguably the better known form of the P2 (even if its not the better working version!)

It may be better if both groups agreed to pool their resources and fundraising to build 2 P2s.. that would probably benefit both groups...
I recall reading somewhere once that the cost of building 1 A1 wasnt that far different to building 2 A1s...

case in point being the frames.. how much more would it have cost to have both sets of frames cut at the same time ?

The A1 trust P2 will be built in Darlington as per Tornado.

What would in my view make both engines individuals is if the Doncaster Group build the A4 nosed version with the "standard" Gresley conjugated/Walcheat [not exactly sure of the spelling there] valve gear on the 3 cylinders. As the A1 Guys have said that their machine 2007 will be based on 2001 in original form with a modernised version of the "Poppet" gear.

... and that's what is happening.
