Does that mean that 4277 will be on the next rotation after 5239, as I'll of course visit to see her, I may also visit to see 5239 if I get chance was going to visit for the Torbay Express but I'll have to see what happens

 

What sort of speed did you get out of her with 11 on?

 

That ghostly white coach which was mentioned earlier, it is apparently housing all or most of the entries for the poster competition which they are running.

 

What is the writing on the side telling us ?

 

4277 may be next but its a little early to tell yet.

The "ghostly coach" will be a new visitor centre. It was the old santa coach which we have gutted, taken out the toilets, boarded up inside, re-ceilinged, new floor and painted inside and out. It will basically be a museum, telling the story of :

a) Kingswear and Dartmouth, from the first civilisations and the crusaders that came through (or something), hence the crusader and the navy ship for the britania college reference,

b) a very brief history of railways, how steam engines work etc etc, hence the Rocket on the side,

c) a brief story of IK Brunel, hence the King on each end,

and d) a brief history of the PDSR/DVR etc, hence lydham manor on the viaduct.

We had hoped to incorparate something do to with agath christie but we couldnt get permission off the family for the rights.

Currently the poster competition is being displayed inside whilst be get the REAL exhibits etc ready.

And as for the Manors performance on 11 she did fine, exactly 25 mph! She kept to time and steamed like a witch, typical western engine, enjoys being worked. Had it been wet we may have had a less than fun time.

 

Another interesting progression looking forward to having a look inside when it's completed some of the posters are good too, although I did spot a few which mention the SDR?

 

Yeah there have been some with SDR mentioned, o well, only 7 miles out!

 

Kids don't you just love them eh, I think most of them were quite young though to be fair. Maybe they'll learn the difference in a few years.

 

4277 is nearly there, last few paint strokes going on now.

2 trains operating today with 5239 & 7827. Although timetable says peak service is not until end of July. Has there been a re-think? Good news if it so busy already...

 

Still on one train running, the second rake is running a private charter today.

5239 failed just before the 1300 dep from Kingswear yesterday, with a broken spring hanger bolt. But there must have been someone smiling down on us as we had 7827 in steam for setting the safetys. 5239 arrived about 10 mins late after a sedate run from Kingswear and the 1415 left on time with 7827. By 1515 the repair had been done on 5239.

We are ready for Tangerine's visit tomoro, the 25 is on standby is the weather is damp!

 

Does this mean 5239 is back in service then, as I was hoping to see her.
It's lso good to know it was only a fairly minor fault which could be fixed quite quickly.
Also what's the progress on 4277, as you seem to be ignoring the subject recently and not adding furhter updates is this a good thing or bad thing

 

Give the guy a break! He is not under any obligation to update anyone and making demands like that is likely to see people not bothering to post at all.

It was only meant as a gentle nudge as I'm quite curious when she'll be ready, as I'm sure everyone else is as well. I'm also sure he knows it from the reaction to this thread since it was first mentioned and on it's own thread

 

She's getting there. Lining out is being done now. As it is al brush work though the top gloss coat has to be left to harden up first.

5239 was repaired within 2 hours of the failure, 1 hour of that was spent taking the train back to paignton and then left whilst we did other things.

 

4277 should be out on friday for a press launch but dont put me to contract on that!

 

Was there any launch event today then?

 

5239 still out on the service trains Fri 11th & Sat 12th.

Not seen 4277 about yet.
