Have you got a specific timetable for the event as last year you didn't and so I didn't knwo what was happening until I had an interesting chat with a very helpful TTI, but by then it was past lunchtime and so too late to do anything about it anyway.

Somehow I suspect you may struggle to get this info from them till you turn up on the day, as it hasn't been mentioned.
A timetable would be nice though, with information of whats on which service, although I suspect as last year you may need to talk to people on the ground

Thank you very much for posting the Roster!

Two questions though. Is the 4277 & 5239 working from Paignton at 1245 Saturday Double Headed or Top and Tail? Why does 5029 stay the night at Kingswear?

I believe both 12.45 services are double headed, I also found this info from a reliable source earlier on.
Look a bit closer 5029 is returning from Kingswear LE, presumable some point after 17:30.
She then travels out LE to Kingswear again on the Sunday.
So presumably for some reason the stock needs to stay at Kingswear overnight, I'm guessing because the goods train is in the siding at Paignton? But only a guess!! :-k :-k

Thanks Tuffer. Looking forward to this event. I see the Manor is absent, but 5029 is a real bonus. How about giving her the Torbay Express headboard, if you have one?......

I think where it says LE below the times Saturday and above Sunday just means that the service is Light Engine. There would be no need to run ECS as passengers could use these.

Agreed. Its really great when the powers that be listen to our requests, the P&DSR really do seem to be trying hard to accomodate requests. Thanks guys!

what are peoples views on the PDSR of getting a new enginge anyone like to see anything in particular? I imagine 4555 or 4588 would have to be sold first

Well, I know a while back they were after a Standard 4 tank, but they are very sought after machines. maybe after this weekend, they would like a Castle. The PDR crew on Nunney on Sat were loving her! However, unless one of the main-liners was based on the line, that is pure dreaming! I think a hall would work well.
In reality it will be one that suits the heavy grades and loadings, but is low maintenance & low running costs. Compare for example the oiling up time required for a GWR 4-6-0 (hour or more) with a Std 4 - 20 mins?
I would quite like a GWR heavy freight - there is (or was) one of those of sale not so far away......

5029 climbing the bank (sory, no mic winshield) one of the 5029 support lads is shooting a vid from the footplate!

As far as I'm aware that engine for sale not so far away is now no longer for sale, becaus eshe's needed to run the services, as they require 4 engines. So if they sold a said engine it would need to be replaced with an operational engine.

Although going off track a little it may be nice seeing this said engine tackle some nice steep gradients with load 7 or 8 at an event being held on 9th & 10th of May next year??

Load 7 or 8??? She's meant for over 1000 ton coal trains!!! Come on, load 15 at least!

Well the railway only brought aonther engine last tear remember, i know it's almost the same as the 52, but still "brand" new. Don't forget 75014, which is albeit slowly is going through a heavy overhaul and will replace 7827 when her ticket is up. Considering Lydham's firebox and stay's etc are all brand new, the boiler will be good for years to come with hopefully only a re-tube to bring her back to life. 5239 had allot of boiler work in her overhaul a couple of years ago and recently a bottom end overhaul, along with having just purchased 4277 with a 10 year ticket, the railway has 3 powerful, well suited engines which are in brilliant condition and will not require much work. So buying a new engine from a buisness point off view, seem's fairly un-practible.

Incidently, 75014 was only withdrawn from service due to her boiler becoming tired, the bottom end of the engine was i have been told, in good condition and would go back into service as she is now. The overhaul on teh boiler is slowly progressing to spread the cost of the work over a longer period, thus reducing the impact on teh bank account.

Although i'm not saying an engine won't be hired in for an event one day, (obviously that depends on the financial outcome of this years gala as to what happens next year) i just can't see the railway purchasing another engine.
