    PDSR Press Release.

The 2010 Heritage Festival, planned for 24-25 April, has been cancelled.

This year we have a lot of alterations that need the full attention of our staff, because of this it was felt best to leave the event out for this year.

We did not take this decision lightly, it is an event that is enjoyed by the staff and volunteers at the PDSR and we hope that the paying public also enjoy it.

Next year is the 150th anniversary of the railway getting to Churston on the original Dartmouth and Torbay Railway, therefore we are planning a bigger event for 2011.

Last years event was well attended and we thank you for that. We understand that Nunney Castle was a big draw.

We hope you will come back again next year!

  3. We'll see you in the summer. Always a great pleasure to come to the P&DSR!

Fair enough. Its early days for 'galas' on the line. A bigger event for 2011 sounds great. A visiting loco is certainly a must. How about City of Truro as an 'old' loco, or if you can get a bit of suitable track put down at Goodrington, would Didcot lend you their broad gauge loco ! (ok, a pipe dream!)

What are the supposed improvements then, I havn't been to Paignton for quite a while now not since September it's a pity about the Gala was looking forward to it after last years.

Coincidently isn't it also the 40th anniversary of when the Dart Valley bought the line in 1971!!

No, they purchased it at the end of 1972 ! Started running properly in 1973 as the Torbay Steam Railway, then became the Torbay & Dartmouth, then the Paigtnon & Dartmouth, and now ..........

Oh dear a year out oh well but I do think they changed name far too many times!! Must be why I gets confused!!
I did know it was only a few years after the SDR's although never mind it seems like another good idea for another big gala the year after as well then!!
I don't like the and now bit it isn't good at all and doesn't really sound good either!!

  9. All these posts are making me salivate in anticipation of our trips to Kingswear later on. I need some sea air and the genial company of the P&DSR.

Good to hear that Goodrington Sidings are nearly complete.

34067 "Tangmere" not available as it is believed to be at Carnforth for non-scheduled boiler work.
Looking forward to 60019 "Bittern" doing battle with some gentle rises.

Yep, the 25 will be on the back. Partly for traction, dirty rail and an engine we havent had in (as far as I know, not recently at least). Also, there is shunting to do at kingswear. The timings are tighter than for the normal Torbay express jobs so there is definitely no time to do it with steam.

Should be an excellent day and will be an excellent sight to see something different down here! We look forward to welcoming 60019 to our line!

Hopefully a great start to an exciting season!

Last time an A4 attempted Goodrington, this was the result:

What a noise that made too!

No such drama with the 25. Hope they let the streak have a good go unassisted though.....

Surely the timings will be better. as you won't have a service train to worry about

I would guess the reference to timings being tighter is more a case of fitting into paths when they can got off and on the main line, considering that the Torbays are mainly a Sunday service in a regular path whereas this is on a Saturday when the NR line is presumably busier.

As a passenger on the train this is disapointing news. Can we at least assume that the diesel will not be in the picture for the return journey?

I hope you won't be too dissappointed. The 25 will not be doing too much, if anything, just keeping the coupling slack. It is there for insurance and for the shunting at Kingswear.

    Enjoy the trip!

If that is the case, then why not run the 25 behind the train? If 19 gets in trouble it's a quick job to run the diesel on the rear and give it a push. I was on 34067 when it stalled and know the P&DSR team are very efficient. The delay would be minimal I'm sure. If 19 makes it Ok, by the time all the passengers were off the Diesel would have arrived and be ready for the shunting.

In any case I assume the train will have to move over from Network Rail, stop attach the diesel then set off. About the same time I would have thought for the diesel to run up behind the train if it has stalled.

How many time have we heard that "the diesel will not be pushing", sorry but it just doesn't happen in my experience.

    Just seen the 2010 timetable.

The company is now calling the line --- "Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company."
www.dartmouthrailriver.co.uk. Dart Valley Railway PLc is still the holding company.

    An interesting title !
