    Hi Petwall,

Congratulations on the connection to NR. Can I take it that their subbies will lay the track into Matlock down platform?

thats really a matter for the board to publicise, however as with any project upon the national network there will be a certain amount of outside labour, that is inevitable if you have to meet tight health and safety, standards and construction disciplines, and not forgetting its not on our side of the fence its on the other side and thats the network operators call, theres already some discussion on things similar on the eridge railway threads covering their plans to bring trains back into Eridge station on NR land, they i believe used contract labour for the works but also for some maintenance tasks.

all depends on whats proposed, what exactly youre running next to eg a mainline or a siding, single or double track, all makes the work slightly different as to what use of outside labour you use.

that aside the next phase of the works is cracking on,there will be anouncements from the board as and when we start on that all important tracklaying into the station, it could be tommorow or next week, when we know youl know, in case anyone wants to pose the question weve all been fielding the last few months of "when will this happen" etc, when we know youl know!!!thats the simplest answer!

    hope that helps.

Sorry I can't help you there as I have not heard anything official about who is doing what and when. As soon as we hear anything it will be posted on here providing it is cleared for release.

    Regards Pete

Pardon my ignorance on this - if volunteers are used won't they need to have a PTS. Will this apply to PR loco crew when bringing trains into P2

not if a worksite is completely fenced off, bit like asking an alarm engineer to have a full pts when hes working inside a station building ,there are limitations with platform and worksites, the wifes dad used to be contracted to railtrack for heavy machinery and never once had a pts on any worksite,as no trains were planned to run within that worksite itself- you can also have access under a temporary visitors permit to the track for so many accompanied visists per year, quite a lot of the buildings dept staff at NR have to use this.

Mmm. Dropped from RTC schedule but cancellation not mentioned either.

    Perhaps they're burying bad news..

Why don't RTC have the backbone to post the cancellation on their website?

PR may be better off without them..

as youve said everywhere says somet different as a reason/possible reason and rtc says very little to nowt on their site!

hopefully RTC will put something up for the people who actually want and need to know!! it would be nice, ner mind wel carry on with the trackworks apace anyway!!!

keep wishing for the sun all!!!!!

Enjoyed my visit to the railway yesterday, good freight train with modern wagons matching the diesels at one end and steam age wooden wagons at the other. Great progress by the Heritage Shunters Trust. The sound of Royal Pioneer bringing the train up from Church Lane crossing was nice.

Pity the turntable wasn't used as advertised, one loco could have been turned to face north for the last train in the afternoon. I waited for the last train to come back but after 20 minutes gave up, was there a problem?

The railway could do with a better sign on the A6 at Rowsley.

glad you enjoyed your visit, not heard of any problems!,would be nice to have a large steam locomotive type sign there,as usual thats on council land so you have to abide by the rulings, agreements etc, though the idea is worthwhile, we do put event signs upon the sides of the access roads where they can be seen side on by oncoming traffic, which sometimes helps...

Just driven past Matlock Station / passing loop and noticed a couple of road / rail 360 excavators, FTB and floodlights - so it looks like something is happening
