It's usually been the 31 at the north end of the set and austerity at the south, I'm going Friday (tomorrow) so will check.

    Cheers

It should be the 31 all being well. Midweek running days are Tuesday and Wednesday.

    Cheers

From mid-July to mid-September the normal pattern seems to be Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with the addition of Bank Holiday Monday. Loadings seem to be very good.

Hi Woodster!, were working on the rodding runs at present, once the last set of holes are dug we dont need the jcb till the compensators go in the ground so the lads can get on with the box base then, mid week running precludes getting thw works train down for more than a few hours in a week so best left till after the mid week running tails off somewhat, that said were half way up the run from the brisge so about another three days putting stools in we reckon.

Hst lads were working up Rowsley this weekend seemed to be working on bodywork and windows on one of the shunters, Ben and the LMSCA lads were about and busy, Robins was carrying on restoring Zebedee, reasonably busy around the site.

Kes, where is the box located exactly? If PR want to straighten out the track dogleg in the future, is the best place to the northeast?

straigthening out the track dog leg would also involve moving all the drains, lest not forget the alignment still uses the original MR drains, something weve had to keep a close eye on with the rodding run, incurring greater costs!

the box has to be sighted to acheive many things, best sighting of the layout, else you end up with poorly sighted signals and adding yet more electrical detection to overcome the fact the bobby cant see the signals, especially if theres a train in the line of sight, also you have to account for the least amount of infrastructure to be put in place unless you suddenly want to run out of items with which to do the job ,theres also the cost of maintenance etc in the future.

originally when there was to be an end on connection between NR/PR the box was to be on the platform side where the old headshunt was,the rod run then being straight down the back of riverside, nicen easy, that changed when one of the operating companies wished to have a seperate connection, thence adding to the rodding layout, sighting issues and operational problems of where we put the box, hence after much thought the cabin will go on the wall side (quarry side) facing the track roughly half way down the platform where staffs need to be issued (to save on the poor bobby walking up n down stairs all day) and to reduce the pull on the run (not forgeting all signallers arent strapping young lads from the gymn) and a long run isnt the best thing in the world at all!

just a small thought there on how something as simple as where to put a cabin can turn into something a lot more complex before you know it!

I got to have an albeit brief look last week on holiday , stopping at Matlock to see the last train of the day and then a quick peek over the gates at Darley Dale .

Having driven from Buxton to Matlock the tragedy of the line closing is all too apparent and I really do hope that the line can reopen further north

Retired engine driver Martin returns to take us on yet another route he used to
drive. This year Nottingham - Derby - Burton-on-Trent - Birmingham is the
journey he will be presenting in his own lively and inimitable style!

N.B. As previously, I am requesting an extra £1 donation this evening towards
the cost of a hotel for Martin because there is still a "hole" in the timetable
and trains back to Nottingham are 21:39 direct, 22:00 via Derby (both too
early) then nothing until 23:37 (too late, doesn't reach Nottingham until
    00:40).

My user account on the members section of the Peak Rail web site stopped working on Wednesday (31 Aug). I had the account since the present web site went live.

Has any one else had similar problems?

With Pete,Elliot and myself we spent the weekend so far completing one of the two rodding runs at Riverside, the rods to go in the stools next.

the coming week should see the holes for the other way dug out by machine,we also finished the bonding work off and a few other jobs besides.

Church Lane has had a new set of steps installed.

    Elsewhere

At Darley Dale there is a festival of transport running in the fields behind the railway station, looks quite busy, think its on tommorow too.

work continues up at Rowsley in the shed on restoration of Zebedee, the queen Mary and Castlefield.

    A busy week this week;

the foundations for the Riverside signalbox have been dug, ground level steelwork for supporting the crank timbers erected and the foundations concreted also.

the rodding runs have been populated though theres still some straightening and lining to complete.

thanks to all who volunteered this week with the work.
