    Those were the days! Incredible find and thanks for posting. It's amazing in all that sequence in the mess hut that the langauge was clean. I wonder how many takes they had to make. Makes me go all nostalgic about my weekends on site there. At one point my brother was living there and I remember sending him a letter addressed to the sleeping car at Buxton station. And it got delivered.

    Thank you both for answering my question, sorry my response is a bit late as I haven't been on since last week. Is Lord Phil here to stay, I hope so as it is nice to have a few steam locomotives working at the same time. Once again thanks for answering my question.

    I believe it's at Peak Rail on a seven year contract.

    He's back at Rowsley now - seems odd calling a loco 'he'.

    Doors open 1900, show starts 1930

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    This new programme of genuine archive films reflects something of the history
    of the famous locomotive and, indeed, the world-famous train which started as
    the 10.00am "Special Scotch Express" departure from Kings Cross on
    1st May 1862 with a journey time of over 10 hours to Edinburgh.
    The East Coast Main Line as we know it today, route of the "Flying Scotsman"
    express, had been established as long ago as 1852. Famous for its fast running
    and streamlined trains and now modernised and electrified, a fastest ever
    journey time of 3 hours 29 minutes for the 399 miles between Kings Cross and
    Edinburgh was achieved on 26 September 1991. The films show more than
    100 years of ECML traffic from Great Northern Railway to GNER and East Coast
    Trains and much more.
    Films include:-
    * GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY
    Genuine footage of GNR trains passing Wood Green station in 1896.
    * INSTITUTION OF LOCOMOTIVE ENGINEERS
    visit Doncaster "Plant" works in 1929.
    * THE FLYING SCOTSMAN
    key scenes from the 1928 feature film starring Ray Milland
    * THE STREAMLINERS
    the pre-war streamlined "Silver Jubilee" and "Coronation" expresses, in colour.
    * THE STIRLING 8ft SINGLE
    returns briefly to the main line in 1938 to promote the new "Flying Scotsman"
    train.
    * ELIZABETHAN EXPRESS
    A rare complete screening of the film classic. "If the train's a non-stopper,
    his topper is proper" - the stationmaster at Kings Cross.
    * CLOSELY OBSERVED TRAINS
    Rare footage at Doncaster 1950-1987, the transition to diesel and electric
    tra_ction.
    * 4472 FLYING SCOTSMAN
    The preserved loco in action on the East Coast Main Line.
    * plus much more.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Interval drinks are available (please pre-order on arrival).

    The rodding run to the cabin has been completed ,next jobs the crankwork,we also had a day restoring up the signal ladders for the signals at Riverside and did a days painting of the signals up at Darley Dale to boot

    C&W

    apart from the usual ongoing carriage work,the Lmsca are on with the NRM coaches other side now, Mr Powell (not Mr Hinson as i previously said-"sorry John"!) is continuing with the ferry vans woodwork, Mr Briddon is on with the restoration of the Yorkshire shunter,cab sides and painting of the engine sides and cab at present,the queen mary is in the process of repainting and having its woodwork done,and the other tank waggon frames are being cleaned and painted now too, looking good to see so much work on going.

    You're right - Dom does such a good job we quite wrongly often leave it to him.

    Since it was turned on the turntable us LMSCA lads have been stripping the panelling off the other side of the NRM's LMS Third Open, you wouldn't believe how many panel pins that leaves to pull out/cut off and punch in. The side was left virtually untouched to act as a guide to where the beading should go, turning the coach means that side is now adjacent to the wood-working machines we have. It will need some frame repairs, but nothing like as much as the other side did.

    I've been told that the Santa bookings are very good this year, and that the PR magazine Peak Express should be going out shortly.

    Cheers
    Dave

    it amazes me the amount of work the lmsca,class 50,HST and C&W lads actually put in to their items too, i had very little knowledge of loco or waggon/carriage makeup till i started chatting with the lads n lasses at the line to see what they were doing for the updates, obviously theres much that could be written but that obviously depends on whether those volunteers want certain things mentioned,for obvious reasons of security etc, itd be nice to be able to put motre pictures on here too but the photo limit has always been an issue on NATPRES so i stopped after last year and concentrated on purely news, obviously its a good means to let all know about the branch meetings too and the more in the doors the merrier for all!

    keep up the good work all, its hard reporting on a weekly basis as most projects are like icebergs,you dont see much progress above the water then suddenly bang! lots to be seen, but we do try :)

    thanks for the comments -the praise belongs to all the volunteers,for which we say thankyou very much :)!

    Dom may not put pics on NatPres but his website is well worth a look - latest here with Matlock box blockwork completed - it will look like a MR box when finished though The Signalling Department see LATEST PROJECT NEWS

    Just to clarify one of Dom's points;

    The LMSCA is obliged by the terms of its loan agreement with the NRM to clear any publicity surrounding the TO 7828 which is being restored at Rowsley, before publication. Therefore, it is difficult to report an update on progress here on a regular basis.

    Whilst support from NRM is assured, the process of obtaining clearance is a little protracted, so the quick-fire communication process of a forum such as this does not fit this process.

    Also, we are part way through a technical update of our website, which in practical terms means updates have not been made available recently.

    The idea is that non-techie members will be able to add info easily in due course. However the development of this has slowed down the availability of the updated website. In the interim, it has not been possible to update the site.

    There is plenty happening. If you are interested in seeing how much progress is being made, a warm welcome awaits at the LMSCA shed if you follow the signs down through Rowsley yard. Saturdays are best, but activity on some midweek days also occurs.

    on the same subject, had a good chat with Mr Briddon the other day on the Yorkshires progress, some rebody work on the cab side,plating up and repainting are well on way, the engine doors are off so he can have a thorough repaint inside too, everything else mechanical is in very good fettle, good chatting with Andy as he knows his way round engines like no mans buisness..theres a good write up on stock projects from all the vols and depts down the line in the latest railways in house magazine.

    No I do not currently volunteer
    Pete Briddon has a blog at railnuts which is updated virtually every week showing some of the work done on the Briddon collection.
    Makes for some interesting reading.

    Is the Box at Matlock going to have a wood or brick clad ground floor or will it be rendered? (a first - a pebble dashed signal box?)

    we did consider it, but leaving it in its basic form actually doesnt look that bad,(if youve seen the HOLT cabin on the NNR) looks quite good,also in its basic form allows us to counteract any ravages of graffiti easily.

    did you know there are /were pebble dashed boxes,mostly in scotland from memory.

    quick update

    with David,Ian and Petes help this weekend weve prewired the operating floor to about ninety percent completion on the matlock cabin and run in the signalwires to the signals,more to do next weekend on that.
