    Some more loco news is:-
'Lord Phil', back on its wheels, appears almost complete.

68013 is booked to re-appear on 15th December, top-and-tailing with 'Sapper' and again on the 16th December, again with 'Sapper' the other end.

The intention is to 'shop' 68013 for motion work as soon as possible

Yes, saw Sapper and 68013 topping and tailing yesterday, and was told Lord Phil has run under its own power for snagging. Santas completely sold out

Wow! Three working locos, gala anyone? One black one, one green one and one with quite a sheen on!

Seriously with two train operation possible and the freight train you put out last year a gala would be do-able. Banking loco from Darley Dale to Rowsley up past Church Lane! Locos facing North for a change. Sales stands and model railways in the big shed at Rowsley etc etc.

It was announced at the volunteers dinner that there was
An event in planning for 2013 using the steam locomotives, so hang on a little longer till the new timetable is printed and we should see some interesting events.

The platform at Darley will also look nice with the down side station lamps in place this coming year too. Well done to Ben and all the folks working on those things

On s and t this week so far we've managed to get most of the Matlock box internal painting done, fitted the new window where the door used to be up-top. And that's just to today. Rest of week fitting signal post phones , welding rods up and other joyous signalling works ;)

The lads were firing up the class 37 the other evening to check things over. Nice sound and sight in the cold evening sky

Il update before the weeks out again but stay safe, warm and have a good Christmas all if I dont catch up with you before the new year ;))

Happy Christmas to you too and all the volunteers for their hard work this year.

I look forward to more exciting developments next year at PR including the extension and community rail involvement..

since wednesday with robs help weve made up more of the connecting cranks for underneath riverside and have also had a day sorting more stores out, also noted the good amount of hard work the volunteers working on the steam crane repainting have been undertaking, with a complete needle gunning down, sanding, filling and priming to date ,at least half the main body area ,keep up the good works..

despite the horrible weather conditions trains are nice and busy, also managed to watch the river derwent raise itself to its bank level throughout the day slowly.

I understand that on the weekend of 9th and 10th March there is to be an Austerity Gala with the three working austerities. 68013 is having repairs before then so hope those go ok. 68013 is due its ten yearly after the gala. It is intended to fit a Maltese cross blastpipe like Sappers during this overhaul as these save coal and Sapper uses 300 gallons less water on a round trip than 68013. There are now 5 austerity locos on site. Swiftsure is having the reconditioned boiler from Sapper put on it in due course. The ex Falmouth Dock loco that has been on the Mid Suffolk Railway is also at Rowsley for repairs.

I was very impressed with the Heritage Shunter groups long new shed, this group really do get on with things, very well done.

If the railway is holding some 'exciting events' in 2013 is there any intention to do something with the diabolical drive into Rowsley? It needs all the pot holes filling in and something doing with the wooden decking on the bridge before someone gets grounded on it!

we do keep filling it in when we can, main problem is we do complain to the council as its there land and we merely lease it off them, they do keep depositing large amounts of planings for us to try to keep it flat, dont think the recent weathers done it any favours though....

Today John and myself pulled the first bit of riverside rodding in anger, after finally getting the lever tail holes drilled with the rotorbroach. We also drilled some switch rails in the headshunt to complete some bolting up there and then set about finding all the catchy bits etcetera in the rods which wel continue with next time

Just a few snippets from the February edition of the "RAILWAY MAGAZINE" worthy of noting, on page 61, PEAK RAIL TO HOLD MARCH AUSTERITY GALA, planned for 9-10th march, at least three 0-6-0 Austerities in steam, more on the railways own website obviously as and when the timetable is produced!

A new venture is being set up with the railway and individuals to use the Rowsley shed to offer engineering facilities, locomotive and overhaul services, a big article of which appears on page 58.

I thought people might be interested, that thanks to some photos posted on Paul Barlett's website, the two tank wagons from UES Stocksbridge have now been identified as SMBP 2363 and SMBP 2427.

The links for the webpages are:

    SMBP 2363
Photos at UES Stocksbridge: Paul Bartlett's Photographs | SMBP2363
VCT databse link: PO 2363 Fuel Oil Tank built 1908

    SMBP 2427
Photos at UES Stocksbridge: Paul Bartlett's Photographs | SMBP2427 RCH rivetted class B tank
VCT database link: PO SMBP 2427 Fuel Oil Tank

Perhaps someone might like to paint the original numbers back on to the tanks?

Hope this is of interest to someone

    Phil
