    photo 1.JPG photo 2.JPG photo 3.JPG pics should be on now, they appear on iphones and oddly enough on this pc bottom of previous page, ive reloaded them again just in case.

    nipped down today to drop some bits off in rowsley box for upcoming works and had a chat with John who was painting the underside gear on the Delacher- Austrian Ferry van and Roy who was adding some painting touches to the deisel crane up at Rowsley, elsewehere rivetting work continues in the workshop on one loco and Ed was busy fabricating loco roof, Harvey has been tackling some welding in of new carriage panel sheet metal work, and Rob and Tom had been gauging points so I could say as soon as the sun comes out we all come out to play, a large coachload of folks turned up for the afternoon trains and by the comments thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

    Peak Rail presents:-

    Rob Foxon "Railways Remembered" Film Show

    'THE WEST COAST ROUTE TO SCOTLAND'

    Monday 19 May 2014

    Central Library Theatre (near The Crucible), Tudor Square, Sheffield S1 1XZ.
    Doors open 1900, show starts 1930
    Tickets on the door £6.50
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~.
    The busiest main line railway in the world is also the world’s oldest! Britain’s first main line trunk railway route, the London & Birmingham Railway, opened in 1838 and it was from these origins that the West Coast Main Line to Scotland was established with such famous trains as the “Royal Scot” express.
    This carefully researched programme of rare archive films recalls more than 100 years of West Coast Main Line railway history from the old London & North Western Railway in the Edwardian era, through the 1930’s golden streamlined age of steam, to modernisation, electrification, and the Advanced Passenger Train.
    Highlights of the evening’s programme are:-
    * footage from the old London & North Western Railway including a visit to Crewe works in 1909.
    * pre-war colour footage of the streamlined Coronation Scot and other LMS expresses.
    * Stanier Pacifics on the steam-hauled Royal Scot express in the 1950’s.
    * Rugby Midland in 1948 during the Locomotive Exchange Trials.
    * Rugby Locomotive Testing Station in action in 1955 with a class 9F 2-10-0 on test.
    * first-stage WCML electrification and the demolition of Euston Station in 1964.
    * second-stage WCML electrification to Glasgow in 1974 and Class 87 locomotive construction.
    * the Advanced Passenger Train (APT) on the West Coast Main Line in 1982.
    Looking further ahead – our Autumn screenings are on Monday 17 November 2014and Tuesday 30 December 2014.
    Interval drinks are available (please pre-order at the bar on arrival).
    In the foyer, our usual sales stand with bargain-priced second-hand books, model railway items, videos & DVDs.
    image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Some good and some sad news this week
    Firstly via David Sharp; the following sad news;
    Having been away on holiday 3-12 June, unfortunately I have only just seen 2 e-mails from Paul Pritchard informing us first of Ernest's passing away on 2 June, and then the funeral arrangements for Thursday 12 June.
    At the end of May, Ernest came out of hospital but owing to walking difficulties he went into Balmoral Nursing Home in Woodhouse, where he sadly died peacefully on the morning of Monday 2 June 2014, aged 92.
    He regularly battled up the stairs at The Harlequin to attend our meetings up to and including last November, and as a measure of his resilience I recently learned that in his footplate days he shared the footplate with Ken Horan who used to fire for him.
    Rest in peace Ernest.
    David Sharp
    Our thoughts too from those down the line
    Dom
    Now for some good news, on Friday we started to pour the concrete for the restoration shed at Darley Dale , the following pictures show the rafts that will support the rails in the shed and the mounts to hold the rails to the concrete being fitted, il link in from mr Briddons website later on as there will be a far more technical write up on there from
    Pete and Andrew than I can give, save to say we all have tired legs and big arm muscles now :)
    Also managed to chat with Harvey this week who is working hard at re windowing one of the carriages which used to be part of BR's load test set, basically dead weight using carriages , the windows being sealed up meant that all the internal fittings were left in situ so this coach is in remarkably good condition both inside and out, we see Harvey having reskinned some of the lower side of the carriage and now in the process of trying to refit the window frames back in image.jpg
    To be honest ive not asked in a while,more one for the charity to answer there, I believe there may be things in the pipeline to assist but again the charity knows more for definite, now the box has moved the space is available for it, weve considered from s and t side how to move the battery location when the time comes :)
    Yesterday, with mr Dysons help I removed the sawdust (the board with the woodworm) from church lane flooring and replaced it,then moved onto Darley to replace a contact box and some ground signal lenses that had scumbled with age, and a little bit more painting on Rowsley.
