Yes it's the section down to Matlock to complete the main bit of the trail. There's still a bit to Buxton to complete too

Thanks for the update Woodster ya bet me too it

    Happy New Years folks

    S and t

I should have been covering riverside this past weekend but with trains cancelled through weather I turned my attention to getting the floor sorted on riverside toilet instead, there is a new chipboard floor screwed down in there and a linoleum top glued onto that.

In the afternoon I headed upto rowsley with mr Briddon to check the cad drawing of the missing clutch on the point operating box and with another few alterations to the drawing we headed off to do other things, Pete reckons the item can be made out of some laminations of metal easier than one piece and then welded together, I'm quite looking forward to seeing it in the flesh,

I've started to strip down one of the unused 2 lever ground frames up in the s and t so we can use the concrete legs for the lead off bench which will need to go opposite the rowsley cabin, it also tidies up the area for access

the bench will need setting in the ground at a. 45 degree angle so the wires from the wheels don't cross as they lead away which means when I've sorted out the two timbers on the top that are there now and redrilled them to get the angle I can then fit some single wheels on top and that will be ready for dropping in with a digger when time comes

    Other business

    Riverside

I'm down next weekend covering the box, if weather prevails the two short posts by the bridge will get roller pole painted between trains

Testing dates are set for the week off the. 20th, I've to fit another lcc contact to 14 lever which is in hand with David our tester

    Darley

Still no date on the ground frame changeover. Am liaising with the boss on when we can get it done between other jobs

    Rowsley

David and Ruth are continuing with any last painting of box, we are waiting till better weather to redo the final outside coats

Towards feb when I'm not at riverside il build up the lead off bench as discussed above, David's finishing off the ground frame removal

No pictures this week but will have some for you next week

    Take care all

    Dom

I've just realised that DCC are applying to themselves for planning permission and avoiding the Derbyshire Dales DC as the project is 'transport' works.

Pesumably, the same applies when they apply for PP for sections of the Monsal Trail which are in the National Park.

Later on, when Peak Rail want to extend, including into the National Park, they will only have to apply to DCC for PP or is this just wishful thinking?

The big question for me is- do Peak Rail currently have plans to extend. Wikipedia implys that they do and have a 99 year lease on the tracked (or have been offered a 99 year lease)

DCC is applying to itself as it is proposing to carry out the works, not because it is a transport project, and it is a Planning Authority for the area in question. In relation to what may happen when Peak Rail wishes to extend, this would be within the Peak District National Park. DCC is not a Planning Authority within the National Park so any application would need to be made to the National Park Authority.

We do have plans to extend , a while back we marked out the centreline of the line at the Harrison's way end so the reclamation site boundary could be proper set out when it was being built and there were a set of plans drawn up by the cycle way for the alignments of the track works

The work at Rowsley to reposition the ex Bamford Ex darley dale cabin is all part of the bigger picture of going north as the trackwork at Rowsley north needs alterations to the current handpoints and unlocked facing points before you could
Allow any passenger trains over it. Hence the signalling alterations going on with the cabin which will start again in late February once we've got running riverside out of the way

Speaking of riverside we managed to get a few more jobs done on the box over the weekend including checking out some errant insulated block joints which were shorting a track out and some wiring works, also powered up the genny to replenish the cells and got the lights working for my first time and did a few other maintenance tasks. Work will continue next weekend as johns running the cabin and I'm going to have a look at that gutter that's drifted apart now the corner stand off bracket for the ladder has arrived off eBay image.jpg

That's the best news so far in 2015 Kestreleyes..

Surely, any extension must be part of the Bakewell extension project. If/when Peak Rail announce this officially there will be a rush on PR shares to finance it..

To clarify my earlier comment, the relatively short extension up to the National Park Boundary at Rowsley is of course not in the park. My initial view is that if Peak Rail is the applicant the application will be made to Derbyshire Dales DC.

That is good news. I assume that there will be no run round at Rowsley

What is going to happen when you get to where the trackbed goes across the Harrison Way as looks like some of the trackbed has been covered with industrial development.

Dom - I assume the Riverside lever frame is a 4.5 inch tappet frame and not a 'tumbler' frame as we have at St Albans South?

According to Peak Cycle Links drawings, the railway follows the river and passes to the west of Harrison Way dumbell end..

An alignment that might even challenge the 25mph speed limit.

Loads of questions so here's some answers

The frame at rowsley is a LMS turnover frame. Centres are shown as 4 inches on olans but in reality they're nearer 5. We think we may have separate bits of frames made into one which is potentially true if BR did repairs etc

The track bed runs river side off the recycling centre which is the development mentioned and misses the other sites at the old station too

For me a run round is simply wherever the end of the line is set at whether its temporary or long term plan as the runaround and distant signal will be associated with that where the end of the line is set at by the extension planners. If we go further then fine we simply move the run round and signal again

The potential to make rowsley a passing point is there but its a case of do you need it as plans may change etc in the future so for now a simple runaround at the end of the planned line and work from there

When are we likely to see any progress?
