Back to m.p.h or km/h vs driving wheel diameter, things are a little different in NSW.

We are allowed to run our steam locomotives up to the 'revenue service' speed limits, i.e., what was allowed for that particular class in the period 26/09/1855 to 23/02/1973.

Our 5'9" locomotives of the C-35, C-36 and C-38 Classes are allowed to run up to track speed, which is up to 115 km/h depending on the line or speed limits imposed at that particular time.

Our 5'4" locomotives of the Z-12, Z-13 and Z-17 Classes are allowed to run up to 100 km/h depending on the line or speed limits imposed at that particular time.

Our 5'0" locomotives of the C32 and D-59 Class are allowed to run up to 100 km/h depending on the line or speed limits imposed at that particular time.

Our 4'7" locomotives of the C-30/C-30T Class re allowed to run up to 100 km/h depending on the line or speed limits imposed at that particular time.

Our 4'0" locomotives of the D-50, D-53 and D-55 classes are allowed to run up to 70 km/h depending on the line or speed limits imposed at that particular time.

once you translate that into mph pretty similar to the UK, with the 5ft 9's allowed 70 ish... .

Completely off thread but i do like the clips of parallel running ive seen from down under. Not many places in the UK you could do that, the southbound ecml and Leeds main line from York being the only one that springs to mind... thtd be exciting...
