Perrygrove Railway Diesel Day, Sat 9th June

    The Perrygrove Railway is pleased to announce its first ever diesel running day on Saturday 9[SUP]th[/SUP] June 2012. This event will feature an intensive timetable, with a regular passenger service from 10:40am until 4:15pm alongside demonstration industrial freight trains.

    The following locomotives are expected to be in action, subject to availability:

    Visiting Locomotives:

    4wDM ‘Skippy’ (Alan Keef Ltd no. AK2/ 1976), courtesy of Alan Keef Ltd. Originally built for Richardson’s Moss Litter Co. Ltd, extensively rebuilt in 1977 as a motorized end-tipping skip, and still used to this day on track-laying contracts for Alan Keef Ltd.

    Lister 4wDM no. 10498/1938, courtesy of Simon Townsend/ Rhyl Miniature Railway. Formerly worked for Portland Cement and Lime Works, Dunball, Somerset, and Eclipse Peat Company Ltd, of Ashcott, Somerset.

    Lister 4wDM ‘Sludge’ (no. 41445/1954), by kind permission of Jim and Helen Shackell, and the Evesham Vale Light Railway. Formerly worked for Finham Sewerage Works, Coventry – hence the name! Subsequently employed on the construction of the Ffestiniog Railway’s deviation at Dduallt.

    Resident Locomotives:

    Hunslet 4wDH no. LD9337/1994 ‘Jubilee’, used on the construction of the Jubilee Line. Rebuilt at Perrygrove in 2007.

    Motor Rail ‘Baby Simplex’ 4wDM ‘Workhorse’, no. 26014/1963, which also originally worked for Richardson’s Moss Litter Co. Ltd, near Gretna.

    Lister 4wDM Rail-truck no. 40407/1954, the last Lister Rail-truck to work in industry at Painter Bros. of Hereford. Entered preservation at Perrygrove in March 2011. First appearance following restoration!
