What makes you think it could be moved via Salisbury Yeovil Junction and Dorchester then?
The class 117 is NOT GAUGED. And Network Rail take their time with these things. So not an option.
If there is any chance of getting the Wareham service up and running by May, moving the unit by road is now the best option so that staff can be fully trained up.
Currently the only section of the Swanage railway that is available for any movements is Norden to Harmans Cross.

I would also think a move even if in gauge would need to be top and tailed (hence more cost) as although you could run round at Yeovil Junction and Pen Mill I do not think you can run round at Weymouth without propelling in an out of Jersey Sidings, (is this allowed these days?) and there is no run round facility at Wareham.
So maybe two (assume) WCRC drivers and at least one WCRC diesel and two LE moves to and from Southall even if D6515 used as the other loco.

It's possible to RR in Weymouth station, but only 27 SLU, but it requires both platforms 1 and 2 to be vacant for at least 30 minutes. ( 25' to RR, 3' platform reoccupation and a two minutes slack.)
With long layover of the London service and the GWR service having increased to something nearly reasonable, running round in Jersey Sdgs is probably easier.

    Cheers, Neil

True although I had regarded that as a given as that was the original plan.

Not sure how the proposed road moves of the three 117 vehicles might be affected by news earlier today ......
Today's Freightliner service (4O05) with 70001, working from Birch Coppice to Southampton, had three wagons derailed leaving Eastleigh's platform 2.
Dont know how much damage to track has been done but, at present, all services are completely stopped.

Road movements tend to come directly from the works these days, along Campbell Road. Rather than being tripped over to Barton Park industrial estate first as used to be the case. So it shouldn’t have any impact.

I always have to admire the low loader drivers when I see them negotiating Campbell Road bridge!

When the Train Truckers programme was on the TV I was constantly amazed by the skill of the low loader drivers backing their vehicles down access narrow roads.
I'm not entirely sure I would have wanted to back my car down some of them!

For whatever reason, derailment or M27, or both, the move for this week has been cancelled.

The class 117 is stuck in Eastleigh Works due to yesterdays (28/01/20) derailment of a freightliner leaving Platform 2, also a class 450 marooned in
platform 3, Trackwork is also badly damaged,so no movements possible and transportation will have to be rearranged.

So no chance of getting it out by low loader over Campbell road bridge? I’ve seen it done with tube stock and class 08s, but I suppose a 117 car is bigger.

Reported in news today that it will be several weeks before track work at Eastleigh is fully repaired and trains are able to stop at Eastleigh. A temporary repair is being put in place from Monday which allows trains to pass but not stop at Eastleigh.

Presumably this strands the 117 at Eastleigh for even longer, unless it’s possible to get it over The Campbell road bridge on a low loader.

Believe you still can enter and exit the works, its only the point work is damaged to enter the Southampton Line.

    Sorry?

I think you will find that the unit has to be moved to Eastleigh East Yard for forward movements by road.
As it is only the two sets of trailing points that have been removed, there should not be any problem moving the unit out of the works, once the signalling has been
    sorted out.

According to a correspondent yesterday [3rd] on WNXX Forum:
The 3-car 117 DMU - plus NSE-liveried spares donor vehicle 51392 - have now left the works and been tripped over to the East Yard, hauled by GBRf 66787 and sandwiched between JNA/MLA wagons for brake force (DMU must have been through piped).
