I have to say the highlight for me was Lilla and Britomart climbing from Beddgelert to Rhyd Ddu on the Friday, also the photo opportunities at Dinas on, particularly, Friday evening when the little engines and 87 were shuffling about in the north yard.

I also enjoyed the run-pasts at Beddgelert on Saturday and the quadruple header on Sunday, especially the whistle concerto as we came over Britannia Bridge.

It was a pity about the loco absences and failures, but obviously these things can happen and I don't think it spoiled the event, at least for me.

I have to criticise the timetable, though - I try to abandon the car for this kind of event and do everything by train - that wasn't possible here. A couple of later trains to get people back to the other end of the line were really needed - its not like the Festiniog where most people will be staying at one end, especially on this occasion when Port's accommodation was already very busy for other reasons.

I agree - the timetable showed a concentration of interest at different ends of the WHR on different days and most people attending the gala would be staying at one end or the other. Personally, I was staying at the north end as Porthmadog was pretty full. The Railway might have done well to show bus connections on the reasonably frequent Express Motors service 1 between Caernarfon and Porthmadog, so that people could return to base by public transport if the trains had finished for the day.
