There was something I heard on the radio maybe a week ago about the possible "Renationalisation" of the railways...

My understanding is that as our small island is becoming increasingly more populous, the Government has hit on the idea of building everything smaller. Network Rail has been tasked to reduce clearances across the system - an insider says that they are working towards O Guage.

lol, what would IKB have said ? Actually, following the adoption of 4' 8.5" as standard I expect he'd have believed anything.

    Another Accountant led disaster !

Brunel was right, it was that Stephenson fellow who started the shrinking of our railways size ;)

That's right, no doubt he went to school with the PM of the day. Either that or some other sort of corruption / old boy network / favours for friends scandal at work. Some things never change.

No it was actually those damned Europeans in the shape of the Romans who chose that as the track for their wagons (Track as in the width between wheel centres).

I notice another "Kentish Belle" to Margate is planned for Armistice Day using 34067. I wonder if they've got the gauging sorted out this time ? This was the infamous tour that turned into a Kent circular from Waterloo and back to Kensington O (only 5 days notice to Passengers I might add), but then failed at Martin Mill bank due to badly planned pathing stop at Deal and subsequent greasy rails. After a sterling effort by loco and support crew, (always the ones to get the "brains" out of the **** it seems), and numerous other cock ups and bad luck later, the tour terminated at Bromley South around 21:00, leaving passengers expecting to arrive KO at 1720 to make their own way back to London !

I do hope this isn't going to be a case of "How not to run a railtour 2 The Sequel" !

Kentish Belle is only £40, cheap afternoon out.
Winter CME's... same £69 as last year.

Bit gutted to see theres no trips through the pennines this autumn. Last years Buxton spa tours seemed to sell well. I would have been up for another trip to Buxton!
I was also hoping that they may have tried to re run the trip to Sheffield again but that's not happening either.
    Ah well.
