wcrc 37 has been coupled up to 46115, rytc say the brake fault is on the loco, but if 46115 has failed, the 37 wont take the train on.

Thanks for the updates. My fingers have defrosted enough now to be able to type! I feel sorry for the people travelling who have been hanging around for ages. I hope they sort the problem out and the trip is reaarranged soon.

47760 left Carnforth at 1215, presumably to retrieve 46115 and stock.

same from me, pity it failed but should it have been allowed to set off in the first place. Hope springs eternal I suppose. Would have been a great sight on such a lovely day. Better luck next time.

just met the national geographic film crew, with dan cruickshank who were filming the train. the loco has cameras mounted by the frames, front and boiler. the dining car is giving out free soup, might see if the main course comes out next ;-)

47760 has arrived from carnforth and will tow it back, with a drop off in lancaster.

Here's my piece on the morning's happenings

23 thrilling minutes with Scots Guardsman

Arriving at Lancaster this morning for the Winter Cotton Mill Express, we were told the train would be delayed in arriving from Carnforth as there were problems with two of the carriages, and the train was being remarshalled. Eventually Scots Guardsman speeded into Lancaster and braked hard to stop in the station. We left at 09.35 instead of 08:14. but the loco seemed determined to make up time. We reached 71 by Hollins Lane, 75 by Carbus and still she went on flying through Garstang and Bilsborrow, Barton and Broughton, until she began slowing for Preston, descending to 73 by the M55. We arrived at Preston at 09:58: an excellent 23 minutes for the 20 miles.

There, however, we sat and sat, whilst increasing numbers of orange coated men appeared, walked around, examined and deliberated. Meanwhile we gathered that the earlier problem at Carnforth had been that one coach derailed and had damaged another. Eventually we were toild that there was a problem with the vacuum brake on the loco: a nearby WCRC 37 was brought on the front to see if it could help overcome the problem. It could not, and shortly after 12 the train was announced as cancelled. Many of us rode back to Lancaster on the next Pendolino, which took eight minutes less than our outward run!

Peter, on a sunny Manchester afternoon, when I would have preferred to have been riding round the cotton mills!

A very unfortunate turn of events, one consolation, the forum communications network seemed to work pretty well helped in no small way by the constant feed of info from ADB968008, thanks John, I guess quite a few people owe you a drink.
Whilst I was on my way back from Greenfield, I stopped at a couple of locations were crowds had gathered, to appraise them of the situation.
