I don`t think motive power either steam or diesel will be too big a problem either on loan or purchase. What might be more of a problem is coaching stock if it were to carry passengers.

Where i work at the moment, they have taken the chaises from two side tipping wagons, and then built a simple coach ontop. Depending on what rolling stock is left at DHP this might be an option. Don't have to be Pullman quality does it, so long as it keeps the rain off people. :-k

didnt the WHR get some of their stock from romania, which they reguaged by swapping bogies from 2'6" to 2'. if such bogies existed, some carriages could surely have bogies swapped around. for a longer-term investment maybe some carriages could be imported. i know they have a pretty tall loading gauge but given there dont seem to be any bridges and the only tunnels are the vaults, this wouldn't be too much of a problem.

There is certainly alot more 2' 6" available then there is 2' these days, especially on the continent but also over here! From what I know the WHR/FR does have some 2' 6" frames laying around.

This could also potentially serve as a temporary home for the SKLR if all things don't go well for them there, although I certainly hope it does!

Considering the scale of 2' 6" railways that used to exist, especially MoD ones, in this country, I think a heritage site to preserve as much as possible is a worthy cause!

I'm no expert, but i know that RNAD Ernesettle was 2'6". Alot of the track went to Launceston, but i dont know where the locos went. Some of the stock went to WHR i think. :-k

I would make a fantastic railway operating area, but there are some fearsome gradients within the site. Some of the buildings at the lower level of the site are rented out on a commercial basis. I visited with the local Festiniog Railway Group in 2004 just before the site closed. Very little can be seen from outside the boundary fence.

I have had a reply form Dean Hil about the state of the Rail system, due to lack of interest it is all being lifted and SCRAPPED.

I cant email at the moment, can anyone else try and get them to stop?

Well...it would be worth it if the lady who answers the emails, Helen Hamilton, wasn't rude, self rightious and generally a pain!

Unless someone can contact someone else higher up then my good friend Helen nothing can happen... ](*,)

When you say scrapped, do you mean all the material has been sold to a scrap merchant, or that the rails are being lifted and are likely to be offered for sale ? I can think of a number of narrow gauge projects that could make good use of the permanent way material from this site; I recall the rail looked to be in excellent order when I visited during the tendering visits for the rolling stock.

I have spoken to Harving Ltd today, the situation appears to be that due to a lack of interest until now, and a policy change at Harving Ltd, there is nolonger a place in the future operation of Dean Hill Park for the railway system in any shape or form. Hence the system that remains will be either scrapped or sold on, which was not made clear.

Spuduk, you seam to know a bit more about weather it will be sold or scrapped. have you any more info? :-k

From Dean Hills web site, they had two locos when they bought the site with some rolling stock and the rail system intact.

From what has been said both here and from other bits i have managed to work out there are no locos on site, an unknown amount of track has been lifted. As for rolling stock some was sold as i have found it on various narrow intact railway sights, but i don't think an inventory will be forthcoming from Harving Ltd. If they are intending to sell off all that remains so far nothing has appeared on their web site, where else they would advertise it for sale is any ones guess.

I fear that without a massive change of fortune on our part, the chance of any rail activity at Dean Hill has been lost, not given up just yet but being realistic.

Unless anyone knows different, there should be two Baguley-Drewry diesels still on site. 3755 and 3756. Certainly they are unaccounted for, and they are unlikely to have been scrapped as they are worth more in one piece.
