And we now have a query over whether No 9 will be on the WSE on 22/8 after her failure on the Duchy today. (Tricky locos these greyhounds.)

Next weeks Waverley looks to be still bookable on the RTC site, though I am not sure thats anything to go by. (going through the motions - seats available)

We were looking at trying to get to Weymouth with Steam during the first week of September on the DCE after the failed attempt with SD last month but it looks even more iffy now.............

Meanwhile the 'unreliable' pool at Carnforth aided by 6233 and Leander continue to keep the North West operations in full swing.... Did someone say this was a bad year for steam on the main line. CMEs, Dalesman, Fellsman, Jacobite all seem to be doing fairly well.

It's not been plain sailing, though, has it? I know broken springs, hot boxes, stuck regulators, loose smokebox doors, etc. can happen to any loco, and things seem to have settled down this month. Although I'm very happy to have seen 5 different locos on the S&C last week, I'm slightly surprised that Carnforth have chosen to use each of their available locos each week.

Yes I did wonder about the rotation, but who are we to know the reasons behind it or even speculate... As you say you did very well in the week.

Just had email from RTC to say 46115 will be the loco for York run on 19Sept. says its been years since a Scot ran up the Midland main line. Well RTC/46115 ran the Robin Hood last November via the Midland main line!

Do you mean the 19th December Victoria - York trip? Looking at UKSteam, there isn't a train on the 19th September going up the Midland Main Line...

No, he means this one that's on RTC's website, but not on UKSteam.

I had the same e-mail, which also suggests that Tangmere's Crosshead problem should be sorted before long. It is booked on the 5th Sept "Royal Wessex" (Three Bridges - Fareham- Weymouth return) and the following Saturday's "Cheshireman" (Bristol-Chester return). Interestingly, the 5th Sept train isn't up on UK steam either.

Steam Ealing Broadway - York only. DL return. I guess that means 46115 will work SD's Lakes Express from Carnforth to Euston on Thu 17th Sept, and this trip will help get her home. 5043 is going over Shap and round the Cumbrian Coast on Sat 19th, too.

Correct but sadly with a hefty helping hand from Mr. Sulzer on several sections. Still unsure if I can claim to have done the MML with steak haulage but I digress.

It was mentioned in one of the threads discussing Tangers' problems on the Royal Duchy the other week. Interesting to see it confirmed, and reassuring to see that it's not serious enough to keep her off the main line for more than a couple of weeks

Ah good - not a throw back to her previous attempt at becoming 750v DC loco then?
