Massively sad news. Both for the persons family and those associated with today's tour. Thoughts are with the persons family.

Incredibly sad news, deepest condolences to the person’s family and friends. And also my sympathies to everyone involved today.

It was a very sad morning, the tour has been postponed but this poor man will not be going home.

Situations like this are always very difficult and often distressing for other passengers.
Unlike aviation, where it is not that an unusual occurrence, normally in the railway world there is usually an opportunity to stop somewhere soon for assistance.
In the air of course diversions will happen for medical emergencies, but not for fatalities which can add to the level of distress for the other passengers.

I was there as part of the Bahamas team and everyone tried to make it as dignified for him a s possible and to minimise the upset for other passengers. The paramedics arrived very quickly and presumably realised he could not be revived and screens were placed in front of the coach. It was then a matter of waiting for the coroner’s permission to move him and the undertakers to arrive. A very sad occasion for all concerned.

Across the network as a whole it can't be all that unusual for someone to die on a train. How is it dealt with?

I've known that situation to happen on bus services, but that is a simple matter of unloading the other passengers and take the vehicle out of service until the relevant persons can attend. Rather a different matter with a train I would imagine.....

    News in general:

'Strike action cancelled after the Queen's death'.
The RMT rail workers strike action on 15 and 17 September has been suspended.
The train drivers' union Aslef has postponed its walkout planned for 15 September.

Far too late for cancelled railtours unfortunately. <BJ>

I suspect similar to the way the situation was dealt with yesterday, train taken out of service, I cannot image any staff who have been dealing with such a matter would be in any mood to operate a service afterwards be it big railway of railtour.

I seem to remember one of that series about GWR (forget the channel now) covered this on a train at Reading. Seem to remember about 4 platforms were shut down which I thought seemed excessive.

Yes, I remember that and had the same thoughts about the overreaction.

At last we have some good news (if it all goes to plan) ;)

Light engine paths have appeared regarding the Royal Duchy railtour on Sunday, 11th Sept.
Hopefully we may see a diesel free run Between Bristol and Plymouth. <BJ>

Which will become 9 when you include the support coach. Next weeks Plymouth Flyer is off as it has been removed from the programme.

It was awful, particularly for his friend who was travelling with him. A very bad start to what turned out to be a very somber day
