There is a working shown on RTT from Eastleigh Arlington to Stewarts Lane today as ECS. I had assumed that this would be the stock for Wednesday's DCE, but may be wrong. In any event though, the train has not yet left EA (as at 1002) when it was scheduled to leave at 0809. I am just curious as to thoughts...

I'd be interested to see what effect that rain has had. My experience driving through some of the very heavy showers over the weekend is that the rain was just bouncing off the land and straight into watercourses, not really wetting the ground and plants.

My experience of walking around today in the woods and heaths near me is that there is a general 'damp' feeling and the ground is certainly moist. Possibly more rain tonight, although our hoped-for (and forecast) widespread deluges last night missed us narrowly and went further east.

Meanwhile the ECS from Eastleigh (which may or may not have been for the DCE) is nowhere to be seen.

That was meant to be the stock for the Britannic Explorer - the ECS for Wednesday's tour will come from Southall.

A-ha! Many thanks - I must admit I had expected Southall to be the source for Wednesday but today's movement seemed a possible fit for the DCE too.

Apparently 45212 is in the frame for the Tynesider and also the Dorset Coast Express on Wed

Tornado in the frame for the Royal Duchy on Sunday

So looks like the Northern Belle this weekend will be diesel hauled again throughout

Well if it was in the frame, it isn't now as the RTC has cancelled the Tynesider for 2025. That's three failed attempts to run it.

This is a classic illustration of how the RTC is being given the run around with its tour programme through, I believe, the actions of others. I'll go no further than that and leave those who want to upset someone to start any blame game that they choose. Those who think I enjoy having a 'pop' at all and sundry should know that when I spoke to the RTC today I didn't ask why it had been cancelled. TBH it's irrelevant and boy, am I glad that I hadn't already made arrangements - advanced tickets etc - to travel to London for a silly o'clock start and finish on Saturday.

So fourth time lucky...next year, they hope.

Does anyone who knows a little about how these things work really book advanced tickets or non cancellable hotels? Even with a large loco pool, which we currently do not have of course, there are so many reasons why it may not actually happen.

All this may be true, but I am not clear why you think the reason for the cancellation is irrelevant. Surely it is central to the whole supposed "run around" that RTC have experienced, if reasons/excuses are/have been given?

It's irrelevant for me. I've waited nearly three years to do the route and I now can't in 2025. End of. I know the RTC has worked hard to make it happen but something has caused the cancellation. I have no appetite for finding out who or what was responsible and then see pages of wibble from folk who want to dissect the whole business.

But it'll all come out in due course. All I'll say is that this trip was on the calendar before most else on this date.

Perhaps RTC should (try to) run a tour called 'The Cloak and Dagger'...

RTC also advertised a Tynesider from Cleethorpes in 2020. That one was repeatedly postponed and finally cancelled. Then it was re-advertised in 2023 and actually ran.
